Book is free, takes a while to respond to emails, very tough grader, class takes up a lot of your time, lots of reading, you have exams, reading, and questions. He is very knowledgeable and clear on assignments and emails though. Have everything in on time and do the extra credit if he offers. Exams have a great impact on your grade! STUDY!!

Comment:

Took PSY 100 with Dr. Olguin as an online class. If you are looking for an easy online Gen Ed you can finesse, I'd look elsewhere. Lots of reading obviously and his tests are pretty difficult. That being said, I did learn a lot about psychology. Extra Credit is offered and I'd highly recommend doing it to cushion your grade. Need to read textbook.

Comment:

Professor Olguin's class was, without a doubt, the hardest class I've ever taken. Despite my diligence at keeping up with the homework and reading through the massive amounts of textbook material and multiple hour-long videos, it was nigh impossible to achieve a good grade. Definitely not a class for non psych majors.

If you're looking to satisfy some requirements by transferring credit, don't take this class. Not worth the time and effort, and if you are majoring in Psych, you should really be physically present at your uni. Expects more than usual online courses. Interesting and free textbook though.

After looking at these comments I was scared . Psychology isnt one of my best subjects and I needed this class to transfer. You must read the material and make sure you understand it thoroughly. If you stay on top of your studying ( especially the concepts) you can pass. I was struggling at the end, and he still worked with me to help me pass.

I tried so hard to like him. I was nice, I tried to look past his attitude and energy. I put everything I could into it and it could not work. I felt disrespected.

His lectures aren't that bad. It's pretty interesting. The book is free atleast. I should have taken this class online. This guy prints out so many handouts I feel bad for the trees. Quizes and exams are super easy.

his class is super easy. questions are straight forward. if your schedule is busy i suggest taking his online course. only quizes and exams. he drops your lowest exam score. idk what other people are saying but his questions are straight forward. the book is free which is a plus

Professor Olguin is very passionate about what he does, his classes aren't easy but if you put in the work and try you'll be just fine. He is incredibly knowledgable about his field and gives great information about psychology and makes it interesting. I had him for two Psych classes and wish I could have him for more.

You better know what you're getting into when you sign up for his class. Every quiz/exam is a trick question. They aren't straight forward. This prof treats everyone is a psych major. TOO MUCH READING FOR AN INTRO CLASS. I have no idea how pulled an A in this class. This was not an easy A by any stretch.

Wish I read the reviews before signing up for Prof Olguin's class. PROS: free text book, very structured & organized in terms of due dates & class expectations. CONS: what you read isn't always what you see on the WEEKLY chapter quizzes (trick questions!), you will NOT pass the class if you do NOT read/watch each lecture/chapter/video THOROUGHLY

This teacher is one of the rudest teachers I have ever have. He is very short and stern in his emails and barely gives any help. There is A LOT of reading, videos, etc. Our assignments require a very little amount of this reading, video watching, etc. The good things about this class is the textbook is free and he DOES give good extra credit.

I really appreciate that he made the textbook available for free, but I think thats the best thing I can say. No power points just pages-long documents of lecture notes that are very dry and rarely include charts or diagrams to better explain what were learning. Hes also a super hard grader and doesnt really give notes for improvement!

I started this class to supplement my semester. I ended up dropping out and changing teachers about 2-3 weeks into this class. The amount of workload that he expects you to complete is absurd for a 3 credit intro to PSY class. He assigned a lot of videos to watch in addition to reading the chapters, there are also discussions you contribute to.

Literally the rudest Professor at sbcc, super unhelpful and inflexible. Demands to be addressed as Dr. He told me to cram for a test instead of giving me the same amount of time to study other students had, which btw in the reading of the chapter it said the worst thing to do is cram. Obviously he lives by his teachings. Do not take his class

Do not take this course unless you have a passion for psychology. Professor Olguins online psych class is ALOT of work. The tests are very difficult and it is nearly impossible to master all of this information in the summer time. Not to mention he doesn't have lecture videos... all he has is lecture notes. Don't do it guys! not worth it.

HANDOUTS EVERYWHERE. He loves to print out handouts. His power points are almost useless. He is kind rude, but I mean we are adults so you just kind of have to grow up. But he will make you feel dumb for asking a question or for providing your input on subject. He does know PSY very well. He is super boring. Wouldnt take him again.
