Comment:
Professor Sommer, I took her Atlantic World Class and never knew what was really going on. Some of the information provided was completely wrong. She was always 5-10 minutes late and her exams were hours of writing. She was never really accessible. Overall just a bad experience.

I had her for a class my freshman year and her class was fairly difficult for an incoming freshman to try to figure out. She was not very accessible and a little intimidating at times. I ended up with Sommer for my senior seminar and my experience was exponentially better. She was easy to talk to and really cared about the students well-being .

Comment:
As a history major, I would probably try and avoid Prof Sommer. Lack of clear grading criteria, lots of petty tasks to "demonstrate knowledge" and just overall lack of guidance and outside help if you are not doing well. Hands down one of the worst classes I've taken in my college career.

I've had her for several classes including my senior seminar and I cannot stand her. She's a nice enough person, but is no help whatsoever. She knows a lot about Latin America, but that is all she knows and she will relate everything to there even if there is no relation. She is no help whatsoever and the second worst professor I have ever had.

Professor Sommer is a great professor- she will not hold your hand though the class, but she will tell you exactly what is expected of you and is always willing to help and meet with you. A lot of her class was discussion based on the reading. She teaches you not only the topic, but also how to be a good and successful student. & she's wicked smart

She may be a little ditsy in her lectures, but she is always willing to help, she is very understanding, and shes an all around good person. By the end of the course you will not just know the facts, but have a full comprehension of the subject, and its importance and relationship to the rest of history

Had her for Col latin American history. It was one of my favorite classes at college. She is a good professor who knows her stuff and will help you if you ask for it. Make sure you do the readings in her classes...classes are discussion and tests are usually essays..challenging but not terribly difficult

I thought she was a great professor. Loved that I could actually pay attention in the 75 min. class and not fall asleep. Helped me iron down that i wanted to be a history major

You really need to do the readings in order to have a chance in the class. Her lectures are based completely on the readings, but always asked our opinions. Just like any other history professor, if you load your esays with information, you will get a high grade. Interesting class-enough to draw some interest. I would take her again.

Good professor who mostly teaches effectively on a mostly interesting subject matter. Sometimes a little air-headed, though.

I hated this class. I recommend ANY other history class over this one, although I don't think it exists anymore. In any case, her grading is horrible. Unless you write exactly what she's looking for on essays you get a C. There's no room for dissent.

She is a really nice prof. There was a quiz every Friday and all we did in class was look at powerpoints. The class is rather easy if you do the work, but Destinos is way too much work! She does make you right a lot, more than other span 103 profs. Overall, she was good!
