Professor McGrane is one of the best professors I have ever had. The course Sociology of death is incredibly eye-opening and inspiring. I recommend this class to everyone. There are three essays and three projects throughout the entire semester. Nothing in this class isn't worth doing, every project and assignment is deep and personal.

Did not lecture since the semester started, he divides the class into groups and they explain the chapters to the rest of the class. Three papers and he makes the class grade your paper before he does. Don't take this class with him!!!

Made for a super fun FFC, easy material and super insightful if you take it seriously. He was really flexible and helpful if I struggled to get anything in on time, but all of his assignments are casual and he is not a hard grader whatsoever. As long as you put in some effort, he will recognize that. No need to stress about your grade or anything.

This class changed my life. Every single person should take a class with Dr. McGrane before they graduate. For Sociology of Death in particular, we had 3 papers and 3 main assignments. I'll agree this class is an easy A, but if that's the most you get out of it you'll miss the entire point. Go to class. Put your soul in it. It'll change your life.

Sociology of Human Sexuality completely changed the way I view myself and relationships. First class I've ever taken where I was sincerely sad to have it end. Lots of readings and papers, but all interesting and papers can be personal and reflective. Everyone should a Bernard class before they graduate.

He literally did not stand up in front of the class and taught since the semester started. He gets guest lecturers, movies, or makes the students explain the chapters as a group presentation. 3 papers, and two presentations throughout the seamster, but I honestly did not learn a thing in this class. He does a writing practice everyday...

Most eye opening class I've ever taken. Everyone of any major should take Sociology of Death. You do 3 essays that are graded fairly easily, and other assignments you get full credit for just doing. Put some work into it, and you'll definitely get something out of the class. Great professor, really knows what he's doing.

Lots of what he says are just suggestions rather than instructions. I mean he really just wants you to learn, so I would say just relax. Sometimes felt like we watched too many movies, but really who cares as long as you passed?

Very interesting professor. Knows the material very well and is very interesting. Not a typical teacher in the sense that he tests stupid details and expects too much. His assignments are though provoking and he encourages every student to think beyond the basic structures of a typical classrooom.

As long as you try, you will most likely get an A. I learned so much in this class because he tries to make it relaxed environment and not really put pressure. In the end it was one of those "feel good" classes.

Very kind man and wants you to see the world through a different perspective. He wants you focused on what you're learning, not the grade. So if you stress out over not knowing how well/bad you're doing in class, do not take his class. You will develop anxiety. Otherwise, he is absolutely wonderful, knowledge, and caring.

Great professor. If you're going to take Death, Self and Society or one of his other classes, don't go into it focusing on what grade you will get, that will ruin the experience for you. This class was really thought-provoking. I won't lie it is also very depressing though, so be warned. It will put your life in perspective, for better or worse.

Take him if you can think outside of the box in your essays, creative/analytic writing will be crucial. Lots of reading, but the reading is interesting. He is a great professor because he is so untraditional. However, not recommended if you are not a reader/writer. If you took AP Lang and did well, this class will be easy
