this was my first acting class. I was nervous but as the semester went on I became confident. This class included 3 acting scene, 2 essays, and I midterm. The Professor held me became more confident, by doing an activity that loosens us up.

Comment:

As a beginning acting class, Butler does a good job at making sure everyone has fun and lets loose. He grades you based on your ability to perform a couple scenes and the final is a monologue. Mandatory 2 shows outside of class with write-ups, but he gives you plenty of options, some even free! 1 midterm, open notes! Few days of actual teaching.

If you are an animation major or an acting/theater major do not take this class. Butler rarely teaches, and when he does it's straight out of a textbook. I've learned more from my peers than I have from him, not to mention that he hasn't bothered to show up for half our classes this semester because of his poor planning- we're over a month behind.

If you're taking this class to learn how to act (especially if you're an animation major) you'll be severely disappointed. Bad teacher and HORRIBLE director. If you'd just like to show up and pass, then i guess hes an okay teacher.

show up to class and you pass. you are going to have to see 3 plays outside of class. There is only two test the midterm and final. The midterm is open notes and the final is just a 10 min performance. overall the class is really fun,he is a really laid back professor and a easy grader.

Important Note: This class was taken during the winter session. 15 weeks worth of material was condensed into 2 weeks. Fairly easy and straightforward class. Professor Butler is a great guy! Just show up and participate and take everything in. The tests are easy as long as you take notes. He pretty much goes over the test before you take it.

All the other acting classes were having fun... ours: "Here's a textbook, now learn to act and you will be graded on it." Not the usual fun games that encourage you to act; just thrown in there. Not impressed with the class, didn't feel like learned much and communication had issues in class. Did not make me want to look further into acting.

Buddy is a very kind man. But as an educator he kind of sucks. Really easy work, does pick favorites and gives a million and one chances to everyone. But when you know he's getting his historical info from popular TV (that's fictionalized) and he uses tests from different classes for all his courses it's just sad. Super unorganized and scattered.

Easiest class I ever had at SJSU. Make sure to take awesome notes since both the midterm and final are open note tests. Couple papers, couple reviews, not bad. Only thing I am angry about is that I got an A on every single thing except two minor things and got a B in the class. Wtf?

You MUST be willing to get up in front of the class immediately. If you have stage fright, you have to get over it. However, if you participate, you will definitely pass, easy. Assignments are really fun!! I always looked forward to coming to class everyday.

Never returns any work making it difficult to know if you're meeting the requirements. It was surprising he even had a green sheet since in previous classes he's taught there wasn't one. Said repeatedly in the first few weeks that you shouldn't take the class if not interested in directing, but its required for theatre majors!
