Carmen is really nice outside of class, in class she goes off topic and is kinda redundant. She bases everything on the book and at the end of the semester wants a long essay of your own research or a random topic. She's not very clear when answering questions either.

Comment:

What can I say? Leaving tough readings to students and letting students discuss those odd theories in the class by themselves without explaining those theories as a lecture seem her favourite teaching philosophy. She expects a lot from a student but puts no effort in the class. She looks nice but actually she doesn't care at all.

Comment:

Excellent professor. Great lecture style & a good sense of humour. The topics for the essays kept me on my toes & she is quite critical of writing so I'd recommend ENG 100 at the least before taking this course. No complaints though, she helped me understand modern art AND improved my writing in the process. I would highly recommend Dr. Robertson.

I loved attending her lectures, she's fantastic, funny, and brilliant. However an extremely difficult marker. I highly recommend her, but be ready to WORK for anything higher than a 80. she's a self admitted hard marker. TITILLATING!

I really like Carmen, she is funny and entertaining,always makes class fun and interesting, However she is a tough marker, and you never use the textbook. Final project is a lot, but it beats an exam, I recommend.. Just be ready to work for anything 70+ Best Art History Prof on Campus.

Comment:

Fantastic professor, gives great feedback on assignments and listens to differences in opinion. She is a hard marker and the class is heavy in material, but she also helps students understand it. Pleasant disposition and kind with students and isn't all fake and academic. Would definately take a class from Prof. Robertson again.

A good class. Goes through a lot of material, but nothing in too much detail. Don't bother reading the text - all you really need to know for the exams are the images. Uses the word 'titillating' a lot. Pretty funny, not too boring. Easy to understand and helpful. Best ARTH prof I've had so far.

I found this class interesting and fun. The amount of material covered in 1 semester is huge and the lectures go extremely fast so be prepared to read the book. I would take another class with Carmen.

I ADORED this class. I never had any particular interest in Art History, and was only taking it as a requirement, but her lectures were fantastic! They were incredibly informative, and she had an awesome sense of humour! I would take another class from her in a heartbeat!

Good class, but you are expected to memorize many dates and artists and time periods for the exams. LOTS of memorization. Other than the exams, I enjoyed this course. She made art interesting.

A fantastic prof! I love art history, but always wondered what the deal was with Modern Art - Carmen really helped to give me an appreciation for it. Very clear in her lectures; she is very knowledgable in the subject and you can tell she loves it. Marks are aquired evenly: some memorization, some essays etc. Will take another class from her again!

Excellent Professor! She made art history fun and informative. She treated each student with maturity and respect. I didn't get all that great of grades in her class as I'm poor at memorization, however, overall I admire her intelligence and personal thoughts of each subject... like her surreal story of being at the Eiffel Tower!

Very clear lectures but some anti-European biases seem to be hidden under her opinions - not that I'm saying there wasn't any reason. Explanations can sometimes sound like they were meant for pre-schoolers instead of University students, but I guess there are reasons for that kind of over-clarifying too.

This class is one awesone. I learned so much about the history and the art. I have a better appreciation for Indigenous art and the people. I also found Carmen to be very articulate and she conveyed her lectures clearly and thoroghly. The class was great and so was her teaching.

The class is way better then I expected. Carmen truely helps you understand the art, and the history behind it. I've now developed a new appreciation for aboriginal art. Would for sure take another class from her!
