He's an orientalist, although he'll spend one whole class trying to prove he's not.

Awesome class! I really enjoyed how he took a feminist perspective on urbanization of the global south. He talks for most of the lecture, so it would be nice if he included more discussion time. If you attend class, skim your readings before the exam you should do well.

He is a funny professor, but his lecture is so boring! He have only one lecture slide for whole course. His final exam is so tricky. A lot of questions you will not notice in class. Such as what is the population in south and north korea. If you not pay attention in class or miss class, you may not able to answer in the exam. AVOID!!!

I found the class very captivating and it definitely deepened my interest in urban studies and Global South studies. He is very knowledgeable and willing to discuss. 2 papers and an exam; the exam is challenging, be prepared to whip out random details learned in lectures. Prof Greenberg is also very funny and dry. Worthwhile class, but work.

Tests are random, as he asks very specific questions that don't seem connected to the themes of the course, so be prepared to know trivia in addition to theories and concepts. Is entertaining and knowledgeable. We had an incredibly disruptive student in our class, whom he dealt with very well, so if you're interested in topic I'd recommend.

interesting content and a somewhat humourous lecturer, so the three hour session will be long but enjoyable. Research essay and exams are straightforward

I love Charles! He has a great sense of humour ("there is no doubt about it"!). He breaks the 3 hours down pretty well, and the class goes by quite quick. His lecturing style is natural and easy to follow. His exams can get tricky though, so it might be harder to get an A (but its easy to be in B range).take the class for the experience and laughs!

Lectures are dull, though the readings he selects are interesting. Monotonous, slow paced lecture slides, and its relatively obvious that he's coming from a smaller institute and may still be getting used to a larger institute like UBC. It would be extremely useful if he the weeks that readings were relative to, rather than just a general list.

Extremely general, dull course. I have learned more about the global south by reading the news. He had no critical analysis and mostly just listed statistics. The exam was insane.

A fantastic class overall. The material alone I think is what makes it so great, yet also depressing. He did a good job of putting in documentaries and other short clips, especially because it is a 3 hour class. The test was on random facts which he in passing brings up in class so attend lecture!

Greenberg has a contagious passion for Third World Urbanization. He makes a three hours lecture go by very quickly. You will watch great movies. Limited amount of well picked readings (approx. 40 pages/week). Testing: 1 article review @30% (relatively easy), 1 paper @35% (very challenging-start researching early), 1 final @35%. Highly recommended.

2nd time I had him as a prof, and still highly recommend taking classes with him. It's easy to be put off by his low key attitude but hang around long enough - you can tell he's super passionate yet humble about his knowledge. Lots of room for intellectual exchange in class. Great sense of humour and makes class time fun but educational.

Dr. Greenberg was an awesome prof. He made 3 hour night classes whiz by. His passion and interest in the subject was both cute and infectious. His exams were very fair and he was a very fair marker.

i wasn't too keen to begin with, but soon discovered that the topic was very interesting, thanks to the instructor who is very passionate about the topic. it's a very good 'survey'-like class and really quite easy if you put in some effort.

He's a really nice guy, but his exams are tricky. The written assignment was confusing and he provided very very vague directions. Overall he's a nice prof, tells interesting stories and he really knows his stuff.

Wow where the hell did he get the questions for this summer semester's map portion of the 1st exam. That map portion was riddled with unfair questions IMHO. BOOOO on the test format, but thumbs up for the prof.
