VA is without a doubt one of the best professors at Winthrop. He expects a lot because he knows you can do it, and he pushes students to do their best and excel, while still being understandable and reasonable about what he asks for. MUN is an incredible unique course. It takes hard work and dedication, but its one of my best experiences to date.

Van Aller is definitely the type of teacher to give it his all. This year, he came to the conference even though he wasn't feeling too well. He continued to support the class regardless of how he felt on the inside. Very respectable man, and every entertaining and enthusiastic about what he teaches.

This class is great if you're into current issues. He doesn't give a lot of grades but he appreciates if everyone pitches into the discussions. There isn't an exam but he assigns a paper at the beginning of the semester which isn't due until the last day of class.

Dr. VA is one of the best professors at Winthrop University. The way he interacts with students along with how he teaches is very beneficial to students. This class is heavy on public speaking, but he makes it easier and gives you the benefit of the doubt as long as you try. Take this class, you wont't regret it!

Comment:

Model UN with Dr. Van Aller is the best course I've taken at Winthrop so far. He is an amazing, thoughtful professor with a clear respect for the UN, and he loves helping students get involved in the class! There is a lot of work involved, but if you do all the homework he will make Model UN one of the best experiences you have in college!

I took Dr. VA for an Honors Global Issues course, and it was one of the best courses I have taken at Winthrop. He is open to hearing everyone's opinion, and the more you speak up, the more he respects you. You do a lot of reading, but the discussion which comes from it is good. The PPTS are really boring, but he gets through them! Would take again

Van Aller is one of those professors that you want to learn from. I would take this course every single semester if I could. He is a great teacher, he gives you honest, but good feedback. If you work hard, you will succeed in this class. If you don't, you will fail. He is one of those professors that inspires you to becomes successful.

This class will definitely keep you busy. He doesn't give a study guide thats worth paying attention to. So, basically you have to study everything to prepare. There were usually 20 multiple choice, 10 short answer, and 1 essay in one test. Good teacher, just be prepared to work for a good grade.

Dr. VA is amazing!! He does a great job at keeping the class together yet interested. He really lets the students run the class while he directs. He is a good speaker. He's creative at what he says and he's loud. He is funny. His class never gets boring. He knows a lot about international politics. His tests are not hard. Just do the study guide and you will do good. His tests are multiple choice, short answers, and 1 essay. He sends out so many emails (articles and links). Great overall.

Comment:

A fantastic teacher and a fantastic class. He is a bit loud, and my first day I didn't know about him, but he turned out to be wonderful. There is a ton of reading, but it isn't hard and most of it is pretty interesting. The tests are really not bad at all as long as you do the reading and pay attention during class.

VAN ALLER IS AWESOME! he is probably is best teacher i've had at winthrop. he is passionate about what he is teaching about and is always willing to help. he gave me advice on stuff other than things we were learning in class! TAKE HIM AS A PROFESSOR!... and stop by his office for some interesting conversations!

Can be VERY LOUD and sometimes he is tough to follow. Plus his lack of computer skills sometimes gets in the way of class. Tests are not too hard but some question tend to be opinionated. Very passionate about teaching though.

Van Aller is overall a great professor. Sometimes a little hard to follow, and sometimes the questions on the tests were hard to follow, but as a whole he was very helpful, very interesting, and really encouraged the students. Great professor, would certainly recommend him.
