I have been in symphonic band with Dr. Rothlisberger for nearly five years now. I have been in many different symposiums, conferences and clinic with other collegiate conductors and have learned more from them in 3 days at the conference than I do with Dr. R in 3 months. His conducting is incredibly confusing. He needs to retire.

It was very hard to understand his conducting. I feel as though it's time for him to retire. He's okay though. After getting to know him, he cares. But he has lost a special musical touch. I hope the best for him.

I was really disappointed in his conducting ability after working with other teachers and conductors. He is a nice guy and respects talent and hard work, but you might look into orchestra instead (or concert band).

I thought he hated me at first because I didn't play well for him at all. Then I started joking around with him outside of class he started to loosen up around me. Just stop kissing his a** all the time and then he will respect you!

very interesting that 18-21 yr olds think they know more than someone with 30 years of experience. try learning something yourself instead of waiting for someone to show it to you. i owe my success to Dr R. he was extremely helpful and caring when i went to him for help and advice. get to know him.

Holy crap, he sucks. What bothers me the most about this man, is how he plays favorites, and your skill level has nothing to do with his opinion of you. I cannot stand how he runs his band, and am ashamed to be part of his ensemble.

Definitely not the best conductor in the world, you'd be better off with a leaky faucet dripping water at a steady beat than with this guy, and in individual adjudications he's harsh, really harsh. Avoid at all costs.

He avoids eye contact with students who aren't part of the "cult," which is really creepy. There are many personalities to this man and he will treat you different each semester. I'm sure people who thought he was great, like I, have changed their minds since.

I agree, Dr. R is a hack. I think he's been here forever, maybe they just don't notice him anymore to ditch him. I know more about music than him and I'm an undergrad. Bad conductor, take the 2nd concert band instead; you'll learn more from Mr. Au.

haha, this guy is the worst professor at Towson. I've been told that he is no longer allowed to adjudicate in certain areas because he is too harsh and too high maintenance. He has favorites, so if you're not one of them, watch out!
