Quite simply, Dave is the best lecturer I ever had the honor of listening to. In seminar he was always pushing to go in directions of the questioning and not always the text. Fabulous professor.

I have to laugh at that last comment about Dave's lectures. They were mind-numbingly boring and very old-fashioned. I honestly learned more taking his lecture terms and looking them up myself. I agree that this class is like AP US History, very unchallenging. Better reading materials could have been chosen. No attendance policy though!

Comment:

He is kind, witty, patient and filled with an appropriate amount of indignation for one who was such a complete grasp of the twentieth century. He is the kind of Professor that is capable of delivering a two hour long lecture on various topics with the kind of graceful style that enlivens even the most technically complex historical details.

Comment:

The class amounted to an AP american history course with an emphasis on essay writing. There is a large amount of work, but none of it is engaging or challenging. He falls asleep in class and it's hard to get past his condescending manner, but he seems to get by with throwing on a video and taking a nap. (Don't get me started on Jerry Lassen.)

Dave likes his subject, but has been teaching the same class so long that he doesn't TEACH anymore. would fall asleep during student presentations. didn't facilitate seminar at all, would spend the time talking about how his grandpa used to beat him. offered no help/clarification even when sought.

Dave was my first and last professor at Evergreen. I wouldn't want it any other way: in the beginning he taught me how to learn and by the end he let me teach him a few things. Most importantly, he showed me how to be a better person.

Dave made this jaded student love going to class. I know he's given the same lectures for many years, but he is such an amazing storyteller that I can imagine it being something new each time. He cares about students and listens. He causes you to care about the quality of your work and can make you feel proud of what you produce.

David is one of the best teachers I have had at Evergreen. One of the original founders of the school, he's still sharp as a tack. Sometimes I got the impression that he was tired of giving the same history lecture for another program, but they were always excellent anyway. Great guy!
