Very interesting class to take. He made history learn fun in the short time we have to cover a wide range of history. I took it on a Fri-Sat class and was not upset at all. Highly recommended.

Unorganized, doesn't respond to e-mails or phone calls, unclear about his expectations on assignments. If you want to work extremely hard for a B, then take him. I am typically a A/B+ student, and I am not afraid of hard work. But I definitely regret taking his course.

Makes history very interesting. Not a stressful class at all, you have a midterm paper, final exam paper and a research a paper. Take him I guarantee a good grade!

I enjoyed the class. It was interesting, He graded me unfairly. I have not been able to reach him regarding this grade. I am very disappointed in his grading methods.

I've taken Guard for 3 classes. He's very interesting. Discussions are animated and hold your attention (I happen to like history). Work is usually a midterm and final paper. If you can write well, you'll ace this class. Only drawbacks are: he does not respond to email quickly but will call you back if you call him. None of his classes were tough.

Dr. Guard lacked clarity regarding class expectations. Does not return e-mails, and if I had the time, I'd surely grieve the D+ that he gave me due to his lack of clarity regarding the final and midterm! If you r looking to talk about coffee and Idlewild, CONSTANTLY this is the class to take! Otherwise find a more worthwhile professor.

I was unhappy with my grade as well. The last day of class he mentioned he was deducting a couple points for copying from the I-Net. He should have been more specific and said a "couple grade points". My fault I didn't quadruple check my papers. Guard is some what unprofessional. He wore the same shirt (with holes) and pants two days in a row.

I really enjoyed this class.Very interesting and he is understanding of your time.There was never a dull moment because he is very animated about what he is discussing.Assignments and exams are farely easy if you take notes and do some reading.

I know more about this guy's personal life and politics than I do about what I paid for - had a hard time finishing lectures. He is all over the map in excution of his lectures and as clear as mud about exam/research paper requirements. Too bad, seems very knowledgeable about the subject. Very unprofessional! Not worth the money! NOT Recommended!

Prof Guard is unconventional, pretty wacky but so much fun. I laughed alot just from his personality, he kept me interested in history which is not easily done. I would take any of his classes again... but he will keep you the entire time class is supposed to run for. Otherwise, his grading is fair, his tests are open notes. One paper, not bad.

At times he was quite disorganized and late to class, but overall Guard is a very good instructor. He has a real passion for history. I don't really enjoy history, but he made the subject interesting and fun with his great stories and lectures.

I'm surprised at the negative comments I've read. Dr. Guard's style is a little unconventional, and he's defintely not organized, but he is extremely intelligent and I learned a great deal. Read the books - some of the best on A/A History - and write the papers. It's hard work; if you expect an easy A, take someone else.
