Comment:

I'm sure Dr. Witten has students who absolutely love him. I've only been with him one semester and I just like him so far. I'm not sure that I will get the most out of his teaching style. My one big complaint is that he's not very open to my ideas as far as technique or interpretations go. Awesome guy though, we spend most of my lessons laughing.

So lucky to have stumbled upon Professor Witten for piano! Always has cool analogies that are funny at first but soon light up the music. And he knows how to find some hidden arm movement that makes phrasing so much easier. Im surprised hes not better known!

A doctor in piano performance that struggles on stage with chamber music repertoire, no to mention absence of legato, and bogus repertoire in his recitals, no wonder this school fails to attract pianists of caliber

Truly a brilliant teacher, and an incredible pianist. I can't believe he teaches at Montclair, when a man that talented could be at a much betetr school! Funny, charming and outgoing. Will help any student if he/she is struggling. He will challenge you to do your best, and you will be amazed how well you will do if you put the time and effort in

a funny guy with an offbeat sense of humor, i think witten unfortunately is not the stongest piano teacher MSU has to offer. he does well with running masterclass and keyboard harmony, but i would dread to have a private lesson with him.

Don't remember the exact number class, a high level music history. As a non-music major, he made the class interesting for me! Great professor, really cares about his students and tries to make them comfortable (ie talked to me in class about my major to link it to music.) Study a lot!!
