Dr. St. John is a brilliant professor. He makes you think about the issues you're dealing with even if you aren't in that department's class. I really admire his teaching methods. My advice is to attend class so you dont lose out, ask for help because he'll work with you, and just do what he asks on his tests. The rest is in your hands.

Outstanding! A scholar and a gentleman. He is precise in what he wants from the students, and is happy to answer questions and help. Unlike teachers who are giving away grades, he will make you earn it and learn in the process.

The key to doing well in his class in learning how to see the subject matter from his point of view. I suggest turning his essay questions sideways- then write the essay. It seems to work. Make sure you include classical/normal interpretations in your essays in addition to your own ideas if you have a tendency to theorize on your own. Very Zen.

The classes aren't too bad, but as far as tests, I have no idea how the man grades, and I don't think he does either. I answered the questions well and I knew the material, but apparently that doesn't matter, and he doesn't give any leeway for showing up and participating, so don't bother.

I really enjoyed this class. The subject matter was interesting and thought provoking, and Dr. St. John's input on the topics made it even more so. This was one of few classes in which I've actually liked writing essays.

You know when you black out from drinking too much? Well, that's basically St. John's class. It's boring and dry and after zoning out for an hour or so you'll wake up and have NO idea what happened. Other than that, he's a decent teacher who seemed genuinely interested in the topics. Not much for class participation. "Revises" syllabis frequently.

He is very boring. The readings were entertaining, but the lectures were horrible. He likes a lot of detail in the essay exams. Make sure you do the readings.

I love Dr. St. John. :) His Moral Life in 4 Asian Traditions seminar was extremely interesting and stimulating. A bit dry, but absolutely knowledgeable about TONS of stuff, and a wonderful asset. Take a class with him!

So long as you e make sure to keep yourself awake during his classes you'll be all set. He might not be the most interesting guy, but he gets the point across. Mid/Final is always 2 essays on material in the reading. Props to the DON

His class isn't too difficult but he loves to lecture and or show videos. He will not give you an A unless you can recall very specific details from the reading or if you participate in class religiously. Read the books, and you'll pass.

Loved the Native Amer. religions course he taught. I was a bit irked with the B+, but I feel like I learned a lot. I'd rather emerge from college a more knowledgeable person than with a perfect GPA. Lectures a great deal, get comfy and bring coffee.

DO NOT take his writing class. Taught it like we freshman had a background in 300-level Philosophy. I understood nothing, and the class dwindled from 13 to 5 during the course of the semester, so clearly I wasn't alone. Favors incomprehensible readings.

I LOVED DR. ST. JOHN's class. It was so intresting. He was very helpful, and he made things very clear if you got up and asked him. People who give him a bad rap never asked him for help, he really explains things, if you don't understand the material

Probably one of the worst classes I have had here at Moravian so far. I was so bored and I thought that my intelligence was being brought down. He hasn't missed a class yet, I wish he missed our class 13 times. Don't take it!

I enjoyed the courses I took w/ St. John. His subjects are neither easy nor familiar, but they are fasinating and I thought he tried to get them across to us very well. If a concept is not grasped then it's the student's lack of understanding...not his!
