Comment:
Dr. Hymes has spent several years in the places you study about so he likes to give his first hand experiences in class. His class is hard because he does want you to understand it and enjoy it as he does however though it is difficult he is definitely willing to help! GO TO HIM BEFORE TESTS/PAPERS! I would've failed without it.

Hymes is very outdated in his field. I'm currently a student at Coastal, I got my associates at Tech. Hymes is nearly impossible to get an A. Avoid him. I'm a rising Senior at Coastal, and from both schools he is the only B I received. I'm also a history major in Phi Alpha Theta and have presented my papers. The way he grades writing is fallacious!

He is a funny man and really really smart in history. This class was HArd and you have to work to earn your grade. I don't think I'd take him again but respect his hustle all the same.

Great teacher, but NOT AN EASY TEACHER. Requires the use of "wavenet" which sucks, and requires that you actually read the textbook via reading quizes (gasp), but I've found him to be outgoing and even funny. He is not an easy teacher, but being a history micro-buff, I feel he really understands the material. I would not hesitate to take him again.

Comment:
Unhelpful. Rude. Gives you a grade based on how he feels, not if you did the work and know the subject. Yells at students. Makes you feel stupid. Takes any and all joy I had from learning history, a subject I usually love. Do NOT take his courses. I'm an A+ student and he tries to give me a B or C every chance he gets. Very hard when could be easy.

Dr.Hymes is a very challenging teacher. Try and stay on his good side. If you want to make a good grade, I suggest you find another teacher. He is very strict when it comes to writing papers HIS way and is very unsympathetic to what is going on in your life. In his eyes, your life should revolve around his class and his work.

Dr. Hymes is not an easy professor nor will he baby you. He explains upfront exactly what he expects from his students and the people flaming the good doctor are merely slackers looking for a handout. Dr. Hymes will not only teach you about history but also how to critically think in a concise manner.

Very hard, this class has to be in the wrong level, he teaches at a 200-300 series level for a 100 class. TAKE ANOTHER TEACHER IF YOU HAVE THE CHANCE. He is not a text book teacher, he dose not practice what he preaches.

Project was somewhat hard, although test were not too bad. Really easy quizes, can be mean to some people in class and has an attitude at times. However, he helped me whenever I asked and overall would say he is a good profesor. No doubt at all he knows the material, this man lives for history.

Dr.Hymes is well there are no words. If he decides in his head he doesnt like for no reason other than his own he will bully you and insult you As far as helpfulness good luck he just uses that time to continue bully you. As well as insult you to the entire class when your not there. Skip him get someone who cares about history.

Do not make eye contact with him. He is hateful and demeaning. The online professor is the same way. Take history at CCU which is alot easier.

Hymes is a really hard professor, but I never learned so much before his class. Really challenges you, but you will walk out knowing history. You will work really hard, but it's a great class. Answers on tests are in order that they are given on review sheets. Just memorize that, and you're good. Awesome class!

Hymes is the best history instructor I know. Personally, he's a great guy, has become a real friend and is helping me earn my history degree. He is, without a doubt, the best asset to teh college and deserves to be at Harvard, not HGTC. His work is hard yes, but it is worth every penny of your tuition. Hymes is a true Godsend and I love him dearly.

John Hymes is the best history teacher at HGTC, this man transformed my entire way of thinking, and is the best instructor I have ever met. ALthough his course tests and papers are a challenge, he even discusses in office what you need to score on upcoming tests to pass with good grades. An asset to the college, and he cares about each student.
