I took two classes of hers & I must say that she is such a sweet professor. The class will be boring, but that is bc of the materials you are learning. She's willing to help & answer any questions. All you have to do is just ask. She also isn't that difficult. Papers require some critical thinking - but that should be pretty obvious(It is Rutgers!)

Taking this class now and everytime I step into her lecture, I die a little in the inside. She is a super nice woman and very helpful, but lecture itself is a drag and super boring. The material is dry and very uninteresting, unless if you're into theory and history. I feel like the class sucks, not necessarily her. 3 papers, midterm and a final.

Took Dev of Soc Theory with her & she was awesome. The material was dry but she made it very interesting by explaining theories in simple terms. Midterm & Final, both essay format but she gives you the questions in advance. They're easy if you prepare in advance. Final was take home. I highly suggest taking her if you can! She's very helpful & nice

Mitchell is brilliant. The theory is boring but she uses everyday life examples to help you understand it. Definitely need to go to class for notes. Lot of writing, but the class wasn't hard. The midterm and final are essays you can prepare ahead of time. You'll learn a lot...I'm so happy I took her!

development of sociological theory: interesting material, but can get repetitive and boring. Mitchell makes everything better, she makes it interesting because shes interested in it. she helps you understand everything. take home midterm, open notes, some work involved but easy A

This prof is absolutely incredible. I definitely recommend taking her. The class itself is a little dry, its about philosophical theorists though so thats expected. I got so lost during the reading and she cleared everything right up, she explained it so well. LOTS of writing though, so don't take her if papers arent your thing

I tend to find theory to be boring, but prof Mitchell helps you get through it, especially when it gets a little dry. She definitely loves what she teaches and wants her students to get something out of the class. She is also extremely helpful and answers emails quickly. Tough grader but will do anything to help you get an A

Great course on Sociological theory, even better with her teaching and grading your papers. Just hope your TA isn't a hard grader. Midterm was a 10 page essay and the final is a 9 page essay. I was used to writing a lot so it was easy. Also, three 2 page papers and 4 quizzes in recitation. A lot of reading, you will get confused, but she will help.

GREAT PROFESSOR! she is extremely passionite about sociology, and knows the subject very well. She is one of the niceset and frinedliest professors i have had, and i would strongly reccomend taking a class with her. exam questions are given in advance to allow for preperation. There are writing assignments, but they are interesting and reasonable

TAKE DR. MITCHELL. Everything is take home. You write 5 papers, she grades them, gives them back to you, and regrades your edited copy. Its a lot of work, but so easy to get an A

The material in this class is VERY boring, but the professor's lectures are extremely helpful and clear. There's also a lot of writing, but come on. It's a theory course. Attendance isn't mandatory but certainly recommended - at least for the lectures. The course isn't EASY per say, but not too challenging if one does the work.

I had her for contemp. soc and dev. soc. Both require a lot of writting but its not that bad. Both classes were challenging but she teaches the material very good. Get ready for nonstop wrtitting! I only read the textbooks for essays and I got a B+. Show interest and go to class....she likes that. She is tough but I would still take her again.

Take race relations with someone else. I got an A, but just barely, and that's bc she made the final easy (since every1 bombed the midterm). Not very difficult if you go to class and take notes, but the material is very dry and not what I was expecting.

Had her for race relations and contemp theory. She's a cool teacher, she's a lecturer though and can be boring as all hell, but if you can get past that, she's a fair grader, easy to talk to, and i think her irish accent makes her fun to listen to.
