Comment:
There is no doubt to Dr. Vollmer's intelligence, but his ability as a professor is very lacking. Lectures are terrible, as he seems to have to remind himself on what he's teaching/doesn't know how to answer questions. No exam outlines are given. Relies on students asking each other for fully correct answers on exams vs. providing correct responses.

Comment:
I took Field Geology with Dr. Vollmer and thoroughly enjoyed geologic mapping. He was very clear and helpful when describing professional geologic field techniques, and gave good feedback on the weekly papers. He expects you to work for your grade, so you cannot skate your way to a B- The final mixes generalities from the book and field

I took structural geology with Dr. Vollmer and thoroughly pained through, but enjoyed the class. He is truly in his element with this class and is one of the country's experts on structural geology. He will help you as much as you need, but be prepared to work. The labs are long but well-explained, and the exams are challenging. A great experience

Very smart, nice guy. Lectures are horrible: disjointed, confusing, doesn't notice raised hands, teaches as if it a review of something everyone already knows.

Great guy & Super smart. Timid, but awsome once he gets to know the class. Labs are insanly hard, but he tries to explain them if you have a hard time. Sometimes unclear in lectures & tends to get lost in his super huge brain. Feild methods is extremely helpful with structure & bareable amount of work. Take it if you can. Got alot out of the class.
