During his class I thought he was a waste of time but now that I have had time to actually think about his teaching style I am proud to say that he has been the best teacher I have ever had and I learned the most in his class. I would love to follow his teachings and learn from him. I wish I would have seen this at that time!! GREAT TEACHER!!

Gackstatter was the best Cowley had. We miss him and envy WSU. He does belong at a 4 year school- his imaginative programming, excellent conducting, and sheer knowledge of music maintained this program at an excellent level for a long time.

Gackstatter just finished teaching a semester at WSU and he brought the program way past where it was before. Energy, enthusiasm, creativity, great rehearsals. Tough, though. If you want to be treated like you're in kindergarten, don't bother. If you're a musician, you'll learn a lot.

Cowley is a rinky dink place, and clearly, Gackstatter does NOT belong. He teaches like a professor at a four year university, and is fun yet challenging. There are a few good teachers at Cowley and Gackstatter is one of the best.

Should have been "Beatles Appreciation". The Beatles are okay, didn't want to spend most of a semester dissecting the "Sgt. Pepper" album. Coolest thing was he knew Michael Hedges and introduced us to his music. Other than that, I have to agree with the other comments.
