One of the best instructors I had at Sierra College, and one of the best instructors there at the campus. If you are lazy and don't like to work, you won't like him. But if you put forth the effort, you will be vastly rewarded.

This is the worst class I have ever taken. He was useless when it came to actual teaching. He made it an ecology class; no philosophy whatsoever. The articles you use are ones he has written and if you disagree with his opinion AT ALL you will receive a low grade. I hated every second of this class, as did the rest of the students.

George knows the subject. His class definitely focuses on ecology but there is no lack of philosophy what-so-ever. If you just ask he will tell you exactly what he is looking for in his essays. He is expecting for you to show understanding of the material, and will always give you a section to voice your opinion and your reasons behind it.

Very Very passionate in what he is teaching, which is more like ecology. It was frustrating at first because it didn't seem like he was teaching an intro to philosophy class. He did make it very clear what he was expecting in regards to the essays. Everything learned tied together in the end to philosophy.

so after attending Sessions class for a full semester now I can honestly say that I have not learned much about philosophy at all. he is very unclear about what he really wants with his essays. if you have a different opinion then his on a subject you will earn a low grade no matter how good an essay you have written. spent more time on ecology.

This class changed my life! Was very much an ecology class rather than philosophy, but I am glad it was so. My Engineering specialty is now Environmental (Sessions wouldnt approve but I believe technology can work). Still, I agreed w/ 98% of what he said & an A was easy. If you dont however, dont let it show in your work. Only 3 assignments, essays

Had classes with Sessions 15 yrs. ago & took 3 courses. He KNOWS his stuff, is very opinionated, and VERY demanding. He WILL push you, challenge you, & expect you to enter into any dialogue with reason, research & respect. You don't give him it, he won't give back. One of the BEST profs, from Sierra to UCD (BAs in Phil. & Soc.), I've ever had.

My recommendation is to not base what you think of Mr. Sessions off what you read here. I went into the class thinking that the guy was going to be the anti-Christ. He's actually a pretty nice guy. Yes, he is very opinionated. You have to take everything he says with a grain of salt, though. Workload is tough because he really wants you to think.

Ive read alot of reviews on this guy and i have to admit most of them are true. I took knowledge and reality and he somehow tied in ecology into it, wich by the way hes written several books on, he should call his class ecology instead of philosophy. overall hes genuine person. he shakes your hand and thanks you on the very last day of class

If you pay attention and come with an open mind then Sessions will open your eyes. You must be able to not take everything he says seriously and ignore his biases.(The mans 73 years old, hes going to have an opinion.) You have to be able to sift through the crap and find the truly intelligent things he is trying to teach you.

Differing opinions are not supported and will result in lower grades with this professor. For fun I began turning in poorly written essays that agreed with 100% his opinion and magically my grade in his class went up. Hmmm.

I would simply like to add quotes from the class. These are direct quotes from his mouth. "Republicans are evil who push hatred and fear on society." "I would compare myself to the modern day Socrates." "People who do not believe in Evolution will have serious consequences." I happen to be a liberal and atheist, still disgusting. Not a Phil.Class

Not what I expected from a Philosophy class, but was pleasantly surprised. Sessions is extremely passionate and knowledgeable, and you can tell he loves the subject. I learned a great deal just listening to him speak because he's truly a pioneer in his field. Come with an open mind and you won't be disappointed!

I think most people rate George low because he is strict, tough, and he sticks to his principles. I'd say he's one of my favorite professors to date, even though I disagreed with him and he certainly didn't help my GPA he's a rare gem.

I took Intro to Philosophy from Sessions in 1971. I went on to UCD for BA in History, then an MA in History at the U of Oregon. I specialized in Environmental History. George Sessions is the worst professor I've ever had. Even after nearly forty years I haven't forgiven him. He has a responsibility to give students a grounding in philo. He doesn't
