Comment:

I had Dr. Yoder for BIOL 1406 and BIOL 1407. For his tests, study the notes and maybe the pictures he shows in class to support the material. In some tests, he will use those figures (but he will specify which ones in class). If he offers extra credit, DO IT. Also, do all of the mastering homework. It counts as a test grade.

Comment:

Pretty good Bio 2 prof. He's very funny in lectures. Notes can be hard to study, so I'd recommend rewriting them after each class. He provides other good study resources. Online homework was required for a combined test grade. Tests questions are pretty easy but they cover a lot of material. Dr. Yoder is very helpful and willing to help though.

Comment:

I like him as a person, but very lecture heavy. Sometimes his lectures can be boring but I always appreciated the effort he made to be lively and occasionally crack jokes to keep students engaged. Uses fill-in-the-blank notes which honestly were not helpful but all exams are based on them. Textbook was optional, but a good thing to have.

Doctor Yoder is an exceptional member of the Lamar staff. Not only does he teach, but he adds real meaning to the world of biology. Would definitely recommend.

Comment:

He made the subject very interesting and engaging. The notes are posted online with some things left out, so you need to go to class to fill those in. He is quite friendly and welcoming of questions. The only problem I had with his class is that he is a very slow grader, we didn't get our first exam grade back for about 4 weeks.

Comment:

Way easier to understand than Terry (although I'm not a science major). Goofy & friendly demeanor. Had 4 exams (including the final) & as long as you study the notes you'll be fine. No attendance- may be helpful to exchange info w/ someone in case you need to miss. Fill-in-the-blank notes. Didn't find the book helpful at all (wouldn't purchase)

Don't take unless you absolutely have to!! Four hard exams and information comes from several chapters of notes, each chapter having about 10 pages.

Comment:

This is a super easy class with Yoder, honestly if you show up and listen to his lectures, you can make a C. However, he skims over some subjects and you do not learn biology 1 as much as you can with Dr. Terry, who is the "hard" bio teacher. If you are not a biology major or pre-med, take him! Otherwise, I would recommend Terry.

Comment:

Gives lecture notes with blanks to fill in & gives answers during lecture. HAVE TO STUDY!! Tests are fairly difficult & if you don't go to class for the notes, YOU WILL NOT PASS! 1st & 2nd tests have so much material that it's difficult. 3rd and 4th test saved my grade.

Comment:

Yoder is a fairly decent bio teacher. You go over fill in the blank notes in class, which he uses for tests. Doesn't require book, but is helpful for more in depth understanding. Has an interesting sense of humor that seems to fit middle schoolers better. If you study the notes he gives you a lot!, you should be fine.

Comment:

Very smart and knows material well. Great sense of humor and likes to add jokes into the lectures. Straightforward grading policy. The book isn't absolutely necessary, but it helped me with the exams. Exams are very fair and not overly difficult. Makes an effort to appease students when scheduling exams. Overall a great professor.

Dr. Yoder is the best professor at Lamar. He cares about his students. Making a good grade in his class is not difficult if you work hard. He makes all his classes very entertaining and interesting.

He is a knowledgeable, funny, easy-going professor. He doesn't make it weird to learn about the reproductive system, and teaches us in ways that we will understand. He even related slang terms we use to their technical terms so we could better understand them! He's always so happy and it's hard not to feed off of his positive energy! Taking again!

You have to study if you want to pass the class. His lectures are pretty long since there is a lot of material and they can sometimes be boring. He makes funny jokes every now and then to get the students' attention. Tests are exactly like the fill in the blank lectures he provides. Great professor!

Comment:

He gives you notes with blanks in between. During the lecture he projects the complete notes and the students copy it down. It made the class kinda boring, but helps a great deal with the tests. All the questions will be from the notes so just study it and you'll pass. Put some effort and you'll make an A.

Comment:

He gives fill in the blank notes which I recommend going over before tests and doing the crossword puzzles. His tests aren't too bad but go over all the notes section by section way before the test. He often makes jokes and is easy to understand and will answer any questions you might have.
