I graduated in 1991 and 23 years later he's the ONLY teacher at CSUC that I can remember his name. He made my early college experience interesting enough, challenging enough, and fun enough that I went on to get my MA at USF. He was a beloved teacher.

Homer is such a good teacher. his "rambling" is not rambling but actually relate to the class and reading if you LISTEN. Homer teaches in a different way but I learned more from him than other teachers. He was not only accessible, he was helpful in school life and personal life. A true teacher if you are a true student.

MY DEAR MENTOR, FRIEND, AND SOCIOLOGY PROFESSOR MR. HOMER METCALF. I RECEIVED MY MASTER DEGREE FROM CHICO STATE BACK IN 1981. I HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO ATTEND HOMER'S SEVERAL CLASSES. AFTER SO MANY YEARS PASSED, I STILL REMEMBER HIM. THERE HAVE BEEN THREE PROFESSORS THAT I NEVER FORGET, HOMER METCALF, HERBERT BLUMER, AND MAX LERNER.

A complete joke class. Superficial, simple minded, like having a prof read The Orion to us in class. No depth, shallow as can be, and sounds like an out of touch old hippie who did too much seed back in the 70s. A farce.

The most important teacher I have ever had. It takes a while to figure out what he is trying to do and he can be very intimidating at first. But wait and pay attention to what he is trying to do, you become truly liberated from all the bad teaching you had to endre all your life. Inspiring man who will do anything to help his students.

Interesting guy. Don't really have to go to class. Entire grade depends on two papers really but he grades pretty hard on both. Very repetitive, but makes some interesting points. Claimed to be retiring but not sure.

AWESOME! He's well travelled and interesting. Really challenges you to think about humanity socially. The class can drag on sometimes, but you really do see almost EVERYTHING through new lenses after you've sat through his class. I really learned a LOT from him! VERY light workload too. TAKE METCALF!

Most of the people in the class have never thought outside the box before in their lives so it is a good challenge. He is helpful and approchable if you exstend yourself. If you have a problem with this class if says more about you than the Prof. .

He rambles and tries to irritate members of the class on purpose. He plays devil's advocate and it gets repetitive. The books he requires are small/easy and compliment his lessons well. Very few assignments, and they are fun/easy. Not approachable!
