Comment:

I am seeing a lot of people say Professor Matthews is tough, but he really wants you to succeed and pushes you to be the best student you can be. He has a heavy work load, but nothing to the extreme for me personally. He cares a lot about his students and is willing to assist outside of class if needed.

Comment:

Mr. Matthews is very welcoming, and you learn a lot. However, he assigns so much homework that it overwhelms students to death. It was to the point to where I had to drop this class. I do not recommend taking any of his classes unless this is the only class you are taking, and you are not distracted by other hardships (jobs, family, etc.).

I like Professor Mathews, however I cant recommend him. I took him in 2014 for English 90 then in 2018 for English 135 online. He's a HEAVY homework teacher, yet his work is not difficult just tedious and very opinionated. What angered me was when he told my online class we would not take spring break because we were online. I left us all burnt out

Comment:

Professor Matthews has you think critically about the interesection of sex, politics and religion in our society, especially in light of current events. Lots of reading, lots of classroom discussion, and lots of writing, all under Professor Matthews' guidance and mentorship. I worked hard for my "A", and learned a lot! One of my best teachers ever!

Comment:

Best English teacher ever. There is no reason you shouldn't get an A, he is very fair. Putting the course load into perspective, received a B in BIO45 in the same semester with R. Hanks. You will use different lit for his class and there will be A LOT of writing. His prompts are amazing . His honesty and insight into his life is refreshing.

Professor Mitchell is a good teacher. He gave some extra credit to let students make up for grades. However, his class need a lot of effort. It still means in a good way. The essay is a little bit tough, and he does not read student's essay before final draft, but he does give students a chance to revise. I like this professor, he's pretty cool.

Mr. Mitchell is one of the best professors I had at Lmc, his class does require time and effort; however, it does help you in the long run. he gives you plenty of time to get work done and their is no reason why you shouldn't recieve an A.

I love this professor. The class was so interesting. We got involved in this class a lot so it made it easier to understand and write his essays. If you go to his office hours and ask for help he'll do exactly that. I recommend him highly.

This class was kinda difficult but the professor helps a lot and lets you know it will be a little difficult. He does not grade hard and if you do everything on time and well, you will get a well deserved grade for your efforts. Good luck. :)

he needs to not always have us write essay topics about his own beliefs. he needs to keep his own opinion out of essay topics. also he isn't helpful at all, he tells you what you did wrong in the essay, you fix it up but you still get a miserable grade.i advise people NOT to take this class. you'll HATE it and REGRET it. he'll make you HATE english

Out of all the English classes I've taken throughout my education career I've enjoyed his the most. Some do not like his essay topics or his own beliefs being so integrated but Jeff did not force people to agree with him. Those who disliked his class I noticed were those unable to express their own beliefs to their peers.

Mr. Mitchell is a wonderful teacher he taught me how to be a better reader, critcal thinker and writer on top of life long lessons I would not have recieved elsewhere. He is a caring and compassionate teacher who really wants to see his students succeed in and out of the classroom. Thank you Jeff for being such a great teacher!

One of the hardest teachers I have ever had. Assigns a TON of homework, and I do mean a TON. He says 10 hours a week, its more like 10 hours a day! He grades essays very well though. That's about all he does well.

Mr. Mitchell is a fantastic teacher. Whether you agree with his politics or not, he knows how to make you work for a grade and he can keep your interest. He has a depth to his personality and a willingness to share personal information that I haven't had in any other professor. I appreciated the fact that he would share his life with us. Thanks!

Not your typical "English" class . . . Much better! I've never had a class with an openly gay teacher before. He helped me to understand why everything I learned in church about homosexuals is WRONG! I worked hard for my "B" and am now a much better reader, critical thinker and writer. The best learning experience I've had in college so far!

Best teacher I had at LMC by far. Extremely knowlegeable, and very skilled at explaining things. He's very sensitive to people who didn't grow up speaking English. This guy is so good he should be teaching at Cal or Stanford. LMC's lucky to have a teacher like this.

Mr. Mitchell is a great teacher for this course -- patient, clear and knowlegeable. He does not suffer fools lightly, however. If you plan to be absent a lot or not do your homework, take another teacher! Mr. Mitchell was very helpful, and worked with me a lot during his office hours. Also, I NEVER got bored in his class... VERY INTERESTING TOPICS!

Mr. Mitchell is a funny guy... He works your butt off at the beginning of the semester, but then calms down. He talks about a wide range of topics, such as: seperation of church and state,homosexuality, and more. My grammer and writing has improved so much from his teaching

One of the best instructors I've ever had. He is extreme but you will learn more in that class than anything else. He's easy going and unafraid to tell you what he thinks. Highly recommended
