Jill is so super, crazy nice. If you have trouble with something she will go out of her way to help you. As long as you make it clear that you are trying and communicate with her, she will always help you. In her higher levels, reading is really important. I had to read things 2-3 times to get a firm grasp. Don't be afraid to ask questions!

I took this class for a half of a semester. There were three papers that added up to 50% of your grade. The second paper I spent 3 weeks on, had many people review it and I still got a D so I had no choice but to drop it. Not very friendly either.

The class I had with Dr. Frederick's was one of the harder classes I've taken at MSUM, but it was also one of the best. She was the first professor to make me really work for a grade, instead of just giving me an A because my paper sounded good. I learned skills in her class that I still use to this day and I'm a MUCH better writer for it.

Professor Frederick is my favorite in the Dept. She speaks eloquently, can be slightly witty, and tough. Don't hesitate to ask questions in class and take advantage of office hours.

It's as if she doesn't want her students to succeed. I would go to her office hours 2-3 times per paper, & she'd answer my questions & guide me along, but once I got my papers back everything we discussed was marked wrong. She's very forgetful & her class is boring. If you miss 3+ classes you get docked a final letter grade Don't take Dr. Frederick

NEVER take ENGL 202 with Dr. Frederick. She is extremely unfair with grading & her classroom atmosphere is awful. She claims she likes class participation, but all she does is talk the entire class time, & if someone does weigh in their opinion, she cuts them down. I am a 4.0 student and English is my favorite subject, but she made me dread going.

She is extremely smart, but is extremely hard. Be sure to ASK if you're not sure on a assignment. She is one you want to be on the good side of. If you have bad vocabulary, either find a different professor or purchase a dictionary. She will tear you apart!

It was a difficult class, but my writing ability dramatically increased over the course of one semester. She utilized extremely interesting textbooks and novels, and is very understanding. I would take her classes every semester if i could.

The class consisted of her preaching. She is extremely knowledgable and she doesn't hesitate to show it. The atmosphere in the class was boring. There was barely any student input. Graded assignments harshly. Wouldn't recommend.

Frederick is one of the hardest professors I've ever had, and one of the best. She's incredibly knowledgeable, provides help when you're struggling, and though she's often blunt, is a genuinely kind person.

Frederick is one of the hardest teachers I have had since being at MSUM, instead of being afraid of her, I think people should appreciate her honesty and flexibility in working with students. You will not do well in the class unless you talk to her one on one, once you do she is very willing to help whenever she is able. Great teacher

I think it is very strange that Dr. Frederick is rated so poorly. I took her a few years ago and thought she was a top notch professor. It is true that she is a difficult, but that is not necessarily bad. If you go to class, do the homework, and actually go talk with her when you have questions, she will go out of way to help you succeed.

(Also took a 300-level elective) Frederick is difficult. She expects a lot from students, especially on papers. However, she's extremely knowledgeable, and incredibly helpful IF you go to her office hours. If you take a class from her, you must go to office hours. Regularly. Or your grade will suffer. She's very sympathetic to smart kids that try.

Professor Frederick is my second favorite teacher at MSUM: she is highly intelligent and has a wonderfully dry sense of humor. She is a fun and enlightening lecturer. I will admit that I was surprised at the low grades I received at the beginning of the semester; I just had to get used to her teaching style.

for those of you with little kind to say, i love all the snap judgments on someone you spend a matter of weeks with. i fail to comprehend why you'd even bother opening your mouth with what few nice words you have to share.

I understand why people have given her harsh ratings, but she's not that bad. If you listen to her and go and meet with her, she respects that you actually have a stake in your education. Talk to her one on one and you'll be fine. You just have to care about your grade.
