Her grading is absurd. She knows her stuff but she's an incredibly subjective grader. If she likes you, you will do far better in the class. Period.

Very tough grader, but cares about all of her students and is incredibly passionate and knowledgable about what she teaches. You may not always feel that your comments are appreciated in her class, but just know that she cares about participation.

Absolutely brutal grader. Does not appreciate creativity. If you are unsure or shy do not talk in her class because she often makes no response to what you say or just says "yeah ok." Not for the faint of heart.

Pearlman is the best teach at bowdoin. she is incredibly smart and knows her stuff. However she is very difficult, relying heavily on many different books, and detailed class lectures. That being said if you get the chance take her class! im so glad i have discovered her relatively early in my career, ill never miss a class shes teaching!

Comment:
Pearlman is a great professor and she teaches interesting urban studies classes. There is plenty of weekly reading and she has a slew of books. I want to say the reading level is 300-level. The exams are also pretty easy but she is not slacker in pummeling papers. Make sure you know what the difference between a novel and non-fiction is.

Jill's pretty much the****. Make sure you ask about things you don't understand and don't be afraid to challenge her in class--she loves the discussion. Truly enjoys teaching and goes out of her way to help students. DonĂ¢€™t miss her during your four years.

Ms. Pearlman is passionate about architecture. She really loves good architecture, and she has very informed opinions about architecture. Intelligent. She is ideosyncratic, however, and slightly eccentric, and things can get a bit abstract

Her lectures are dynamic and interactive, the slide shows are pleasant and the reading load is intense. Classes are research-paper oriented-get started early and pick a topic that will keep you engaged throughout the semester.
