Man, I've never felt more cheated out of my tuition money in my college career. I learned nothing in this course other than what Java is essentially supposed to be. Jim does not care if you learn or not. He sits in front of his vague powerpoints and reads off them. Assigns homework and EVERYONE copies off of eachother. Outdated course and professor

Comment:
This class is a nightmare. Most of it consists of trying to copy the code he is typing on the tiny, out of focus projector as fast as you can. The content you learn is basically useless, it isn't enough to even say you know basic Java on a resume. MIS majors don't need to learn Java, this class should be replaced/redesigned to something useful.

I recommend you attend the lectures and pay attention if you plan on taking Connolly. He won't baby you like some teachers.. which is good. Attendance isn't mandatory however. He doesn't convey the material in the best way, but he is willing to help students if you ask questions. Overall a decent pick, and you might not even have a choice.

Prof. Connolly doesn't convey material extremely well, however he is willing to explain in better detail if you simply ask him! His lectures are long and can be a bit monotonous but they are helpful. I barely used the textbook. Do not mistake this class to be easy... you will have to work for it. Participation & attendance is completely voluntary.

Connolly rocks! His SQL lectures can be monotone but you'll have fun nonetheless. He occasionally gives out extra credit assignments but usually doesn't grade for a long time. He hasn't graded the first HW assignment the day of finals. Still, take him for Java and SQL.

His lectures are hard to follow but just ask questions. Sometimes it's hard to get an answer but if he see you put in the work you will get a good grade. Many alumni love Connolly because of his vast amount of knowledge he has when it comes to sap, databases, and programming. Many people get jobs from taking this class. I sure did.

Comment:
Mr. Connolly is a great guy and one of my favorite teachers, but THIS CLASS is just not very good. It's all based around the EMC certification test and it's just boring, stressful, and pointless. Says a lot coming from an IT major. The whole semester is just a grind. Love the teacher, but I hate this class. Please find another elective.

Comment:
Mr. Connolly is awesome at Java Programming, which is both a good AND a bad thing. He's very patient, helpful, and VERY knowledgeable, but he knows so much about Java Programming that it's very easy for him to go into details that even intermediate programmers would lose track of what he's talking about. Funny guy, good teacher, enjoyable class.

Connolly is my favorite teacher in the BIS major. He is very helpful and grades fair. His tests are harder than the other teachers, but you will learn a lot more. When it comes to programming, do all the assignments and you will be OK. He is flexible with assignment due dates if you get behind. Great guy. Should be given an award. Take 325 522 335.

Comment:
These programming courses are ineffective. He also has a way of giving up on people and not teaching towards rational scenarios. Programming for example- why won't he show the end game applications from the perspective of someone who uses them. Courses are much more effective if students can think about them how they are used too seeing it IRL!

He is one of the best professors I have ever had. He gave the entire class the textbooks for free, we happened to meet at the bear for on the last day and he bought everyone lunch. He is an extremely knowledgeable guy, and his assignments are relevant. Tests are hard, Study

Dr. Connolly is absolutely exemplary! He is so intelligent, composed, concise, and always willing to help. He normally offers a midterm retry for some additional credit, and his assignments always help to maintain a grasp on the material. Highly recommended! One of Chico's best.

Very helpful and makes things easy to learn and understand. his classes are easier(than they 4 other people) and fun for me because i have prior knowledge, but even if i didn't i know i would enjoy the classes and be able to understand the material. must take at all costs, especially if programming is hard for you. taken 335, 535, and 325 from him.

Had him for 3 classes... he's great. Always available in his office, even during non-office hours. Smart as hell, very experienced, and obviously loves to help people learn. Tough tests though, in his Java courses.
