Comment:

To be honest, overall I enjoyed the experience. I didn't pass with the grade I wanted so I will end up having to re-take this course. I passed but for scholarships and such I need a higher grade. He's an extremely tough grader and my writing skills are average. He has a nice personality though and is a bit more lenient on deadlines than most profs.

IF I COULD PUT UP POSTERS AVOIDING HIM I WOULD That being said, he is a very hard grader, especially if you are not so hot at writing. He assigns good amount of reading every class and has a 4 question quiz on the reading. The catch is that he will ask questions such as: "What color was the scarf the girl (mentioned maybe twice) was wearing?"

Wonderful teacher, very helpful to me as an advisor as well, he always went above and beyond to help me . He is a tough grader but very easy going and approachable if you have any questions. His classes are discussion based which are fun and engaging. I would definitely take him again!

I meet with my students to see how their college experience is and it seems that many are displeased due to the same reasons others have listed about this professor. My advice: leave detailed comments on course evaluations: it matters! If you are a potential student, talk to peers about how to best work with this professor.

Professor Scannell is a tough grader and doesn't always clearly tell students what he expects. If you are a good writer and follow directions you should be perfectly fine. He treats his classes very casually and allows students to poke fun at him while he pokes fun back. He is very approachable and easy going.

He is one of the worst professors here at Utica College. You could go to him during his office hours and have him read your work, fix what he tells you to fix, and he will STILL manage to find other things wrong with it after it has been submitted. Avoid him at all costs. It is simply impossible to do good in his class, no matter how hard you try.

I really liked him. Only 3 essays, which weren't very tough. Almost daily quizzes from the text were annoying and VERY specific. However, he drops the lowest scores. Class participation was pretty high - we worked in groups a lot. He was very helpful and a fair grader.

He is an extremely hard grader and it is impossible to know what he wants on his papers. You can have him look over your paper and he will tell you to fix certain things then fail you on something else. He will even go as far to tell you not to fix something then fail you for not fixing it. One of the worst teachers at Utica College. Avoid him!!!

Awful. Expects too much and doesn't tell you what you did wrong. His quizzes are impossible--He's impossible. I'd have a 4.0 if it weren't for him. And I didn't learn a single thing. He's completely useless.

I never passed any of his poetry quizzes because he would ask such picky questions. He is a very tough grader when it comes to essays and tests, but he's fair. I liked him overall and there is just something sexy about him!

I've taken him every semester... he's awesome, and oh so fashionable. He lets you make fun of him, and it's funny when he makes fun of people in the class. material is interesting, and he doesn't care about deadlines. Helped me out a lot when I was having problems... great profesor

He grades a little on the hard side, and as has been said before, is a bit unclear about what he wants in essays. I liked his class though, we had fun. He is very easygoing and his class discussions were usually pretty good.
