I actually wasn't supposed to have Silliman for gen chem, but I'm so glad I have him. He writes out his notes, and honesty does a great job at explaining (and re-explaining) the material if you don't understand. Has mini "pop-quizzes" but will imply there will be a quiz next class. I am taking him for chem 2 during summer, and I'm actually excited!

Great professor!!!! This is an extremely hard class and definitely one of those weed out classes but Silliman is a great teacher. You can visit his office for extra help and he explains material well.

He writes notes everyday (but doesn't post them, so show up even though he doesn't take attendance). Everything on the quizzes/tests is exactly in the notes. Very easy class if you show up and take down the notes. I really liked him and would take him again. Also, he gives out random pop quizzes, but gives hints on when they will be.

Took Dr. Silliman for Organic Chemistry 1 and 2. It was hard, but Dr. Silliman is a great professor and he is very easy to follow. I loved his notes (they're fill in the blank), his exams are hard (the book has a lot of helpful practice problems), and he is very funny. He makes a lot of jokes!

I loved taking Organic Chemistry 1 with Silliman. He made is super easy to understand in lecture and will always answer your questions if needed. You can always pop in during his office hours and he will be happy to help! He's really nice and funny! Best advice is to form a study group!

Dr. SIlliman is AWESOME but the class is hard! Make sure to study and do the fill in the blank notes. His notes are very helpful. The SI is great. Office hours really helped me a lot. I hope Dr. Silliman tries to teach some higher level chemistry because I would take them with him.

Dr. Silliman definitely cares about his students and wants you to succeed in any way possible. That doesnt mean you cant make an effort however b/c this is ochem and its not an easy subject. Print out his notes BEFORE class, attend SI to get extra practice, and go to his office hours if you dont understand. Exams not easy so practice everything

I highly recommend taking him! He is a great professor who truly cares how well you do. You must attend class the notes will not be posted online and there are weekly quizzes. Your final replaces your lowest test grade. Great life examples given throughout class which helps you a lot on the tests. One group project that isn't bad at all.

I take him for non-science major chemistry. He's always making corny jokes & he's a great guy. The trick to passing the tests is to memorize the notes. Test questions are word for word from lectures. No attendance, so you technically don't have to attend as long as you get the notes from someone. Weekly 3 question quizzes straight from the notes.

Dr. Silliman is amazing! He's a really caring and great professor. His notes are handwritten and you copy from what he writes no powerpoints and they are not on blackboard so even though there is no attendance go to class and pay attention! The exams are easy just study the notes he gives you exactly what you need to know!

Silliman is a great professor. 5 pop quizzes with 3 questions, study, they could help your grade. 3 exams (easy, just read all your notes) and 1 group presentation (5min). He gives 10 points extra credit if 75% of the class completes the course evaluations and in every exam there is also 1 extra credit question for 4 points.

Does fill-in-the-blank notes. He usually hints at when he'll give pop quizzes. Pop quizzes are hard (unless you study) and only 4 questions. He's pretty funny and easy to approach. His tests are pretty hard. Khan Academy helped me the most for his class. Final replaces lowest grade.

He is personally one of my favorite professors on campus. He is funny and supportive and always willing to help. His only grades are tests, quizzes and group projects though. He gives you homework questions but they are not turned in, just to help learn the subjects. I would take him over and over, great teacher!!

Great professor. I took the summer session; there were quizzes/tests every week. The textbook is needed for the optional homework problems he assigns. The questions on the test mirror homework problems and quiz problems. Dr. Silliman really tries to make chemistry fun and ensure that his students understand the material. I highly recommend him!

Extremely nice and definitely makes sure you understand the material. Had him for OChem. One word of advice: He emails out notes to be filled in during lecture. PRINT. THEM. OUT. Having them so easily organized will save you.
