Great Professor and a great guy. Prof. Cotts can go on some very interesting tangents once in a while, which is just a bonus to taking the class. Lots of reading.

I have him right now, and he is wonderful. Though his lectures are kinda weirdly organized and not necessarily the most clear-cut, its easy to tell he's super passionate about teaching and really knows his stuff. He's also one of the nicest people ever. He does expect quality work, but doesn't give tests! (yay!)

I have taken a variety of classes from Professor Cotts over the years. I must say that he is a capable and helpful teacher. However, I never felt that his critiques on my papers were useful as he tended toward generalities and I never felt that he had any more than a passing interest in my papers and projects.

Comment:

John Cotts is actually the man. He is hilarious and very knowledgeable. He gets distracted easily in discussions, but always in a good and humorous way, and digressions typically return to relevant material fast enough that it doesn't interfere with learning. Grades fairly and is extremely helpful, and good natured.

Cotts is great! The class discussions are unorganized and sometimes useless, but he has a lot of great knowledge, and is articulate in expressing his points. He is a fair grader, and extremely helpful during office hours.

Awesome prof! Lectures are loose and he loves to let students get him off track, but it’s fun. Was very friendly and helpful in office hours (one of the more down to earth, not aloof profs around). Always seems to be having fun and he tries to drag you

Very good teacher. Takes his students and his teaching seriously. I a bit harder on the grading than I am used to, but fair. You really need to read the homework assigned because he doesn't spoon feed you the material.
