Absolutely the worst teacher I've ever had. If you are expecting an easy class, look elsewhere. His grading restrictions are absurd: if your essays don't meet his expectations, you will fail. His lectures are very interesting, but I often leave the class more confused about my writing topic than before. He is also very rude and ridicules students.

Well I could've guessed his class would be terrible when I first saw him, looks like his done some serious drugs in his day. We're in the 5th week of school and so far the class has had nothing to do with research writing, it is more of a US Politics or Current Issues class.

I took this class my first semester at Pitt. The class wasn't bad. It was maybe a little challeging if you forgot to read what was assigned. I didn't really care for Dr. Fields though. My dad passed away and I was going to miss a test to go home for his funeral. When I told him I would be gone he said, "So...." It really upset me.

I wouldn't recommend this professor to anyone, a complete jerk. He loves call people (especially conservative students) and make them feel stupid when he knows the questions are ridiculous. Harsh grading and limited assignments makes it difficult to get a good final grade.

We had a quiz at the start of every class followed by a lecture, nothing too hard. All tests were take home papers and, just like he'll tell you, just answer all his questions and back up your interpretations and you'll do fine. I've got A's on every single test. He'll let you know his political opinions, but I never feel like they're forced on me.

He was a horrible teacher. He gave tons of homework that you didn't get hardly any points for. Tried to make people feel dumb by calling them out, even when he knew they didn't know the answer and he spent more time on his political soap box than he did teaching things. I would NEVER take a class from him again. He's a jerk.

Strange but ok. Took this class in high school, and it was pretty tough. It got me in the habit of puting more effort into my schoolwork though. I got an A in the class, and im a terrible writer. Just do what he asks and put out a little effort and he is very reasonable.Expectations are probably too high to take this course with a heavy class load.

He's not bad. Gives you this lecture about the 3 B's and a guitar that's kinda wierd to start out the class. He makes it seem like he's gonna be the Darth Vader of grading when the class starts but turns out to be pretty fair. Overall pretty good class if you don't mind his shinanigans.

He really likes what he teaches. He puts people on the spot all the time and enjoys hearing himself speak. He offers tons of extra credit and will gladly work with you. If you do the extra credit, it is an easy A. Overall, if you don't mind the work I recommend him.
