Comment:
First and only time this professor teaches Math 1B. The class material wasn't hard, to be sure; however, the midterms were extreme curve balls. The final even more so. Studying barely helped, unless you start literally from day one. GSI's were helpful, but they can't do it all. Class was curved, but that doesn't make up for the midterms...

he trys really hard to help students but his lectures are extremely difficult to follow and confusing, barely anyone attends lectures, tests are super theoretical and hard, relied on internet the whole course

Really sweet professor. I never went to class, and I got a good grade. Midterms are exactly like the study guides. the final was ridiculously hard... but thank god for the curve and the fact that I had already taken calc in HS!

Harrington's lectures will PUT YOU TO SLEEP but they help a lot when it comes to the homework problems...do your homework to boost your grade and study the practice midterms because real ones are IDENTICAL. Skip lectures if you want but go to discussion and ask questions. STUDY STUDY STUDY for the final because it is 10-20x harder than the midterms

Harrington is definitely better suited to teach graduate math than lower-division; I can definitely see how he may have struggled to communicate math to his 16A classes. But he is an excellent professor of mathematical logic. His lectures can be slightly disorganized, but he is extremely helpful in office hours, and seems a genuinely nice person.

Prof. Harrington is a cool guy, and he knows the material. His presentation is somewhat lacking, however. If you have taken calculus previously, you'll be fine even if you don't go to lecture. Just pay attention in section, where the GSIs explain everything - clear as crystal. The midterms are EXTREMELY easy, but expect a curveball on the final!

It's okay to skip lectures because they're not straightforward. It's math, just do practice problems. If you're good at math, midterms take 5 minutes to do. If you're horrible at math, midterms take 10 minutes to do. Overall, easy class, easy A.

this class is a joke. the prof is a joke, my GSI was a joke, and the tests were a joke. you may be better off studying by yourself if you haven't taken calc before. if you have, don't go to class, just do the practice midterm and you'll be fine. my GSI only checked hw about 3 times. i did it all. waste! easy A+!!

Harrington is super nice. Math is probably the worst subject to teach because everyone whines about it too much but he does a great job making sure people follow. I like his grading system too.

Easy class. Lecture was 80% empty after first week. Do HW and quizzes for section and you will be fine. Harrington is fine with a 95% average on his midterms. Make sure to do practice midterms and finals. Chill prof.

I'm sure the professor is a nice guy but not the greatest lecturer...Do not need to go to class. Practice midterms and finals are a must. Easy A. :)

Top 3 most useless professors--top 3 easiest classes I've taken. Not a math genius, but class was defintely manageable;practice midterms were basically carbon copies of test given. Prof is a really nice guy but not the teaching type. Fortunately textbook is very useful and clear. Material is pretty standard, but a good GSI makes the difference too.

Gave us practice midterms that were essentially the midterm with different numbers. Useless lectures and sections. Graded only off of tests. Got an A having not gone to lecture or section and just used the book. Hands down easiest class I've taken at cal.

Ok, so he IS really, really boring. He makes mistakes, and he's totally unclear. His final was much harder than midterms, and if you haven't taken Calc BC, you're gonna have a really hard time in this class. There are a lot of homework problems, and they are really hard and confusing!

What's up with the smiley faces? If you suffer from insomnia, Harrington will help you catch up on sleep. Lectures were super boring, even for a math class. Had to go to lecture to get his "tricks", to pass midterms. Basically, just pray real hard you get a great GSI.
