I had Lynda as a professor from 2000 to 2004. The "awful" and "poor" ratings are clearly given by students who don't want to work hard or who have trouble accepting a professor who knows exactly what she wants and won't stop until she gets it. Lynda is absolutely amazing at what she does and has the choir to prove it.

DH is one of the most inspirational professors I have ever had. She always expects the best from all of her students and is a fantastic leader. She is a great example of what it means to be a strong woman!!

I'm amazed they haven't had to widen the conservatory doors to allow for her inflated head to fit through. She's only content when students worship her, otherwise, she has no use for you. She's extremely knowledgeable, but her ego and personal emotions get in the way too often.

I respect a conductor who strives for the best sound, but unfortunately ego gets in the way for DH far too frequently. If she cared half as much about the music or her students as she does herself, she could be an amazing educator.

Dr. Hasseler was my worst professor in my four years at Capital. On the very first day of my very first conducting class with her, I made an attempt to inform her of a condition that could (and DID) affect my conducting. She interrupted me by shouting "EXCUSES" and then chuckling to herself. And her conducting is in no way clear. Bad professor.

DH is certainly a knowledgeable woman. However, she is a terrible professor. She plays favorites and expects to be praised. On top of lacking pitch and rhythm abilities, she has constantly and unknowingly mispronounced a composer's name. She proclaims clarity and yet her overly flamboyant "expression" obscures her conducting. Avoid if possible...

Unfortunately she feels she is the most important part of her class. Her pitch and especially rhythm are sometimes questionable (I have perfect pitch though). Her self importance is her biggest downfall. There's a reason she's teaching instead of working in the real world of music. Still, if you enjoy working hard as I do, you may find results.

She values self-accountability SO MUCH, which kicks your ass, but pays off. Completely different from a high school director and if you have a true passion for music you can strive and survive.

Demanding and relentless, Lynda Hasseler will strive for the best sound she can get out of her groups. Despite her intimidating presence, she has a genuine sense of humor and persona. You will feel more comfortable around her the more you get to know her. There are people who despise this woman with a raging fury; just be smart and be prepared.

If you're sensitive, Lynda is not the professor for you! However, I absolutely loved her and loved being part of the choir while at Capital. Most everything I learned about choral education came from singing under her. People who complain are typically the people who aren't willing to work hard or can't handle some blunt truth.

She treats her students like dogs and I do not think that is okay in any situation. She achieves great results and the choir is phenomenal... but at the cost of many of the student's emotional well-being. I think it's possible to create a great ensemble without treating your students the way she does.

She is a tough cookie!! She knows her field and her context, and she is an amazing conductor. She will teach what you need to know, and you will learn. However, she is not always fair, and she can sometimes be too hard and take things to the extreme.

A woman who is not willing to settle. Her expectations are painfully clear, but not always attainable. A wonderful conductor, and musician. I learned volumes. Someone who's influence can be seen in my own teaching (8 years later). AMAZING choral teacher. All of that said, she treats many people horribly, and has broken many friendships.

Chapel Choir was amazing. I didn't appreciate it until I was in another choir where the director is a total **** and the singing sounds terrible.

Still think about her today and I graduated in 2002. As a teacher she is exacting and demanding. She is probably one of the best choral conductors I have ever been under or learned from. She is not very approachable but get over it, that's the "real world". I know she did not like me personally, but she was fair and I learned. Bottom line.

Definitely a tough teacher. Has her favorites, and this sometimes can be quite frustrating when you are working just as hard, if not harder than the folks she tends to favor. Despite all of that, she is very knowledgeable and definitely has a high standard for choral music. You must be willing to work hard. It will be worth it thought!

While I do understand she is a decent teacher, she is certainly not one of the best around. Hardly anyone in the music word likes her. I was one of her students and am an incredibly dedicated worker; however, being treated as if you are a piece of crap on a daily basis is not worth the experience. I could find a better choir with a better conductor
