I loved her and her class. She is super caring and interested in her students learning. She was always there during her office hours and she would explain over and over until you got it. All you had to do is ask and show interest in her class. She gives a lot of homework but it definitely helped practice for the final exam. Take her if you can.

She is a super nice teacher. She gave lots of homework but is willing to help you to get a great grade in the Calculus studying. I would take her class again because that is the best math class I took.

Great instructor--she helps you understand how to approach problems, and expects you to think during class. I am better at solving word problems now thanks to Dr. Carlson

I am taking calculus with her this semester and really like going to class. She keeps us engaged, so no sleeping in her class. If you don't want to work, take another class. She gives lots of homework every day.

I loved this class--I now understand ideas I had just memorized. I am going to be a teacher and even though I had taken many math classes I didn't really understand many ideas. She has special insights into how to think and approach problems that build understanding. If you want to understand mathematics, take her class, but be prepared to work.

I am lucky I took this class. I didn't understand many ideas that I'm going to have to teach next year. Because of Dr. Carlson I can now help students learn how to do word problems. I also understand exponential growth and average rate of change. She missed class some because she travels but when she is there she is good.

This is the first education class I've had where we really dug in to the math. She makes you think and asks questions to try to help you understand. All teachers should want to understand the concepts but it was surprising that some of my classmates got frustrated when she expected you to explain your thinking.

I thought Dr. C was one of the most helpful teachers I've had--she cared about our understanding and learning. Students that don't like her are the ones that don't want to learn and don't want to work. The effort was worth it and I am now in calculus and feel ready.

She often makes mistakes and has to backtrack but overall she is a good teacher. Clear to understand and gives plenty of examples. With that in mind, you can expect 6-10 hours of homework each week depending on how much you understand the content. It's worth it in the end if you go to class and pay attention and do the homework

As long as you pay attention well, everything will make sense. Homework, tests and quizzes are pretty straight forward. I'd recommend Dr. Carlson for MAT 171.

If you pay attention well everything Dr. Carlson explains will make sense. Overall i thought the class was pretty easy. Homework and quizzes/tests were pretty straight forward. I'd recommend taking Dr. Carlson's class for MAT 171

She challenges you to understand the ideas, so this make it hard at first because we haven't had to understand. This may be why some comment on the class being confusing. For me, it was challenging because I had to think, but it is the first math class that has asked me to think.

Terrible teaching, she gets off topic and looses her train of thought frequently. Doesn't know how to explain the concepts at all. Gets the answer to problems wrong extremely often which is amazing because she is one of the people who wrote the text book. DON'T PICK THIS TEACHER!

This class was worst class I have even had. Tons of homework, quizzes, and she did not attend the class also. and it was so weird because she require discussions all the time despite it was the math class. F!
