Comment:

Doc is absolutely in love with what he teaches. He's extremely knowledgeable. He goes off sometimes, but his tangents are inspiring because he just loves the material so much. Class is difficult, but so worth it. He will help you with anything you need, related to class or not. Take Doc for music history. You won't regret it.

Comment:

I think he is a good teacher but lately he has been lacking. He takes for ever to grade papers and tests and even longer to post them to blackboard. His lectures are long and seem to go off track a lot. When it comes time for the test, you basically have to go through the entire study guide to learn everything because none of it is covered in class

Comment:

One of the best professors at Elmhurst, hands down. This guy is incredibly intelligent and is super accessible if you work to communicate with him. His classes are intense both lecture and homework wise... it's important to stay on top of the Encounters and do a bit every other day or so. Doc Harbold is a hidden treasure of Elmhurst.

Comment:

Interesting material, terrible lecture. Everything he teaches isn't really on the exams. The study guides are basically what he asks, but there's a lot on the study guide (he picks only 1/4 of the study guide, which takes several hours to complete well). Grades in completion, not quality, on his encounters. So he basicallt encourages cramming.

I don't know how anyone can say this guy is a good teacher. All he does is listen to himself talk, same thing every day, terrible lectures, and no class participation. His tests and quizzes are in no way related to what you learn in class. There is either a quiz/test/or encounter due every week. The good news is youdont have to show him any respec

Great guy, time consuming class. Graded on punctual completion, but do a good job or you'll fail the tests. If you work on the assignments a little every day it's not too bad. Or you can do what I did and pull an all-nighter every time one is due the next day...I recommend not doing that though.

Doc is a great teacher. He's revamped his syllabus for this class so it's not nearly as much work as it once was. It's still time consuming, but nothing you can't handle. He's a very intelligent man and has a true passion for the class material.

Doc is a great TEACHER, but he's not the easiest. His classes are VERY challenging, and they should not be taken with an overloaded semester. Wait until you have a LOT of free time before you take on his classes. Very nice man, but VERY HARD.
