Dr. Ottenbreit is adorable! He also has a sense of humor & never fails to make my day. I always looked forward to this class. It is a challenging class but in the end you definitely learn.

Avoid this class if you want to spend your entire free time studying 5000 slides, 80% of which probably aren't even necessary. He does not care for his students which is noted from his high curve rate. Avoid at all costs, beware.

Dr.O is a great professor. He doesn't spoon feed you information; he expects you to learn it and he is willing to help you get to a level of proficiency. Study hard and use this class and prof as a preview of what will come in graduate school.

Dr. O is adorable. He tells lots of corny jokes :) His teaching is clear, tells you exactly what you need to know for the practicals. Very willing to help you with any questions you have, answers questions clearly. Study HARD for the practicals though. Get a sub-par grade on one (there's 3), and there's not much you can do to save your grade.

I think I've taken Dr.O for about six classes in my entirety at UDM. I really like the fact that this class is challenging, but not in a tricky way. It's a good prep for the MCAT/DAT, and he grades very fairly.

He knows the information very well. The tests are completely based off the powerpoints, and small details need to be memorized. That may be frustrating, but it prepares you well for the future and he gives you a good foundation if you keep up

His exams are really tricky.. The exam is 50 questions + 5 questions (10 pts extra credit) but definitely you will have 10-15 questions that you don't know what the point of it... Unfortunately you have to take this class but the good news is the cell lab is easy with one open book and one take home exam!

Don't buy the text book, the test is 100% based on power points. Memorize every detail on the power point slides and you will get an A no problem. At the end of the class, he will curve the class so that an 85 or 88 is an A. Very boring lectures and corny jokes, but he is always willing to answer questions and is very helpful.

BORING CLASS! all powerpoint. I was going to be a science teacher before taking his class. Passed Chem and Chem Lab no problem. His class I had to drop out 3/4 the way through. I studied and went to the learning center, and when I asked him for help he told me I didnt belong in his class if i wanted to be a teacher, he was teaching for the MCAT.

Smart man. Clearly loves biology and knows a lot. Class was very individual: 4 tests based on slide shows lectured on. It was all very straight forward.

Excellent teacher! He knows the material and presents it exactly how it is on the test. Time outside of lecture is required. This is college and for everyone complaining, this isn't high school. He gives you powerpoints in class and thats it. What he says doesn't make anysense sometime. You need to read the book to even understand his power points then you need those two things to understand his lecture at all. His test are impossible I had a study group for 7 hours a week and it didn't help, it is just ridiculously stupid.

Great Prof. He knows his stuff and just teaches off powerpoints. Read along in the book just focusing on the powerpoint material and it wont be bad. He comes up with hard test questions that can get pretty involved. But the best thing is he uses a HUGEE CURVE!! 80-100 was an A for my class. So easy.

Ottenbreit requires one thing...and only one thing from you....memorize the powerpoints. I went to about half the classes, and rarely even paid attention but was ready for the exams and did well. the curve is very nice also. A- is around 80ish and A is 85/86. overall nice guy

Good professor, passionate and interesting about biology. His tests are all multiple choice and he makes extremely large curves. Don't bother buying the book if you're taking first semester biology, you won't even crack it open. Class wasn't mandatory as long as you know how to read ;) all information is on his powerpoints that he posts online.

All power points used that correspond directly to the book. I was hurt at first because I tried paying attention during lectures but I couldn't quite follow along and soon got behind with the material. Really nice Professor, but not my favorite teaching style.

Lab is pretty easy, he has powerpoint notes that you can print out..He always does his quizzes after 4, and it's open book. He has 3 exams which if you study hard, you'll find it pretty easy. He's straightforward with his exams, no tricky questions. Sometimes he'll remember something and crack a useless joke lol.. pretty funny at times actually..
