He's a pretty average grader and gave good feedback. A lot of writing but it's a writing class so expected

Great professor! I took his creative nonfiction course as my first writing class it was a great experience. He gives detailed feedback and wants you to succeed. BE PREPARED TO WORK! He's a great professor but this class is NOT easy! If you don't love to read or write, I wouldn't advise you take it. I learned a lot and my writing is much better.

I did not have a very good experience working under professor Kitchens. The class consisted of meeting once a week to literally sit around and talk about the assigned readings in a non-engaging conversation, then the next week you were assigned a 5,000 word essay on the reading with vague instructions. If you have the option, do not take Kitchens.

This was an extremely intense course. He definitely has a great personality, but I do not feel this class did anything for me except force me to read and write more. I would have appreciated this, except the material we were forced to read/ write about was boring and useless (even for a WRT major).

I took this as a night class, so attendance was graded. I learned a lot about literacy and technology, as well as politics. There were forums each week, 3 writing projects, and a final project which was a presentation of one of the projects. He offers extensions and will grant them id you explain your reason. Very chill guy who wants you to succeed

He was a tough grader. I took this class to fulfill a gen-ed and he graded everyone as if they were a journalism major. He would mark me down on every assignment and the only feed back I would get is to "dig a little deeper and be more robust." Then when he got behind on grading he would mark me down and not even give feedback why. Horrible class.

Professor Kitchens is fantastic but the class is a lot of work. It requires a lot of writing. Every week you are assigned a 1000-word story (creative nonfiction) to write about. You also have to reply to 3 students' stories in 500 words and then write a 250-word reflection on the reading for the week. I thoroughly enjoyed the class and professor.

I found advanced creative nonfiction to be more reading & responding than compositions. Lots of interesting reads & opportunities for discussions. More lax than WRT 3860. Do the readings, respond with good posts & feedback for peers, & you'll be fine. Marshall is a cool professor, go to his OH. Work towards finding journals for your publications.

I loved taking Dr. Kitchens during my summer semester. There are weekly reading and writing forums. Peer feedback is a main focus, which helps in selecting a piece to revise for midterm and final projects. He posts helpful resources like techniques and example works. I'm taking his advanced CNF class now. You'll learn a ton and grow as a writer!

There are two 1,000 word papers every week (one a reflection on the readings and the other a memoir-style story). Received very little feedback beyond "dig a little deeper" and haven't received any grades since February. This is a workshop class, so feedback from the professor is like the most important aspect, and I've received pretty much none.

Holy almighty is there a lot of writing. I am telling you now, if you struggle with writing, do not do this course. Otherwise, it's informative and interesting, with helpful readings and professor comments, and what he wants is always clear. It's not a learning class really - more a workshop for writing.

This was my first online class and I received a 3.7 every week there's a 1000 word essay due and 3 500 word responses due. It's a lot of writing so you need a lot of time. He answers emails quickly and is very nice. He's helpful and sweet. I like writing, but it was a bit too much. Online classes require more work though! Overall he was nice :)

I took an online class and I didn't get much feedback. I am a fairly strong writer, though. I have yet to get less than a 3.8 and not gonna lie, I've barely read the material. If you quote a few random bits of assigned text and participate in the discussion forums, it's an easy 4.0. He seems quite chill.

He's a really great professor. I took him for the summer semester, and although it was an 8 week course and we were assigned a lot of homework, it was easy to get through. Be prepared to write...a lot. I definitely would recommend him to anyone that needs to fulfill their writing requirements.

The class is extremely relaxed, which doesn't match the difficulty of the projects and assignments. He's not always clear on what he wants either. Being said, the class is interesting, the due dates are lax, and as long as you do the work, it's not hard to pass.

Awesome professor, I can't wait until my next class with him. He restored my faith in writing and rhetoric as a subject. I'm not the only one to think he's awesome either, he's the chair of his department. He's clear, he's fair and he'll help you when you need it. Make sure to take him every opportunity that you have to do so.

He is a nice guy and takes an active interest in his students. He is a little unclear in his expectations, but is not a particularly hard grader. Show up, do the reading, participate in class discussions and you should do fine.
