Comment:

Bona is extremely enthusiastic about her classes, she definitely has passion. If you don't share that passion I'd recommend staying away from her as a professor. She is very fast-pace when it comes to reading assignments, and she will find out if you haven't been keeping up with them. A 91 is considered a B+ in her grading scheme. Not an easy A.

Comment:

Professor Bona is a very good professor. She obviously loves what she teaches and the passion for her work comes out in her lectures. That being said, she expects the same amount of enthusiasm from her students and if she doesn't get it, well don't expect any A's. Participation is a must in her class. Very tough grader. A 91 is a B+.

Comment:

Prof. Bona is one of the funniest and most down to Earth professors I've met at Stony Brook. She really made the class enjoyable even if she knew that most people were just taking it for a requirement. Participation and attendance is a must, and so are the readings. Lots of work for a DEC, but I would recommend.

You won't get an easy A with Bona but if you're looking to really learn how to think critically and understand the literature then there's no one better. Her classes are interesting, engaging, and she inspires you to love the subject. True, her grading system is harsh but you'll be a better writer because of it.

Prof. Bona is very dedicated professor. For students who are looking for an easy A, you won't get it easily in her class. Despite that however, if you care about learning you can learn a lot from from her. She's very fun, and eccentric (and hard as well). If you care about learning, you will not regret taking her class.

Great teacher but do yourself a favor and don't take her. Grading is very difficult and she designates her own grading scale. I'm shocked she can get away with it. A B+ is 90-91, B is 85-89. So with difficult grading, multiple essay question tests limited to 40 minutes, and the issues stated above, you are probably better off without her.

Went to class everyday, actively participated and finished with an average of 87.8(according to syllabus). That is with the grades of 89,80,91,93, and 82. On her syllabus she grades 85-89 a B, and that is the grade i received. I don't get why she would want to give a student who averaged an 87.8 with daily participation a B. GPA killer donttakeher.

Really awesome professor. Her lectures are clear, concise, and entertaining. She may have a tough grading scale, but she doesn't follow it to the letter if she knows you put in a lot of effort and try your best. I'd love to take another of her classes.

I have such incredibly mixed feelings. She is an incredible teacher. Her class is extremely enjoyable. The reading she chooses is interesting. She's animated, enthusiastic and extremely likable and she wants her students to excel. At the same time, her grading system is absolutely ridiculous and is a real detriment to her students' GPAS.

Bona is a wonderful and intelligent woman. There's alot of reading, but if you're interested in literature, it's not difficult to complete. her grading scale is strict, but it's hard to not do well in this class since she's so helpful and it's easy to understand if you pay attention.

ALERT!!! do not take her!! I don't know how this woman gets away with it. She has her own grading scale. according to her syllabus; a 90-93 is a B+, 80-83 is a C+..etc.. How is this allowed? She gives a ton of work, then punishes you by giving a grade lower than you got or deserve. Also, she picks on people in the class. UGH. STAY FAR AWAY!!

She is a very thorough and intelligent woman. Some people don't want to do the work she assigns, and they suffer for it. She can't make it any clearer, if you do the work, then you'll do well in the class. She's not your friend, she's your professor!

She is a difficult grader, and expects a lot from her students. But she is a very intelligent person and makes the information crystal clear. There is rarely a situation with Dr. Bona where you do not understand the point of what she is saying. Don't take her class if you're not ready to work. It's a waste of your time and hers.

She is a great professor. She explains readings very clearly and has great notes. Always willing to help and she makes the class very interesting. My advice is that you read all the readings, participate in class and read over the notes and you should do fine on the exams. Her grading scale is a bit tough but it is not impossible.

She is a very intelligent woman and makes class truly interesting. Morning classes are generally not my cup of tea, but I still always look forward to this class even if I'm crawling there! However, she really is a tough grader. If you're an English major I recommend her for sure, but if you are taking it as a deck then I might go another way.
