Great Music & Civ class, even though it was online! She doesn't have specific due dates for the Maymester, so make sure to keep on top of assignments so you aren't scrabbling to write a research paper the day before finals. The class itself was interesting and she kept the few written assignments we had engaging.

Great online graduate Jazz History course! I learned so much. Lessons were well-organized. She keeps you busy, but directions are clear on what she expects. She gives grade feedback on assignments and has a deep understanding of teaching methods, as well as jazz repertoire and artists.

Dr. Hogan is a great teacher. I loved taking her class because she is very passionate about what she teaches. You will watch videos and listen to different kinds of music in various periods and styles. You will surely receive an A if you show up to class and read the chapters assigned. It isn't tough, just be willing to work and understand.

Online quizzes are tough even with the book right in front of me. Has decent listening quizzes, however, I didn't like the use of musical styles being a part of the grade due to some of the students not being musically inclined.

Fantastic! Everything is fast paced! Study, do homework, and practice! Know your solfege and get as much tutoring as possible if you are having ANY troubles. This is not an easy class.

Dr. Horgan was a great online teacher for this course. She allows chances to redo assignments if you don't like your original grade and she gives extensions if you ask. She's lenient and works with you. The online course has some pretty lengthy reading, but nothing to awful. Not a hard class, you can definitely pull an A.

Dr. Horgan is extremely helpful. Whenever you have questions, she more than willing to help. The tests and quizzes are not easy; but if you take notes, then you will be fine. Definitely worth taking. Great thing is that you can work ahead and complete everything except the 2 tests. Great for busy people. Work hard and keep an open mind.

Great class. It was very interesting and I enjoyed it. She's very passionate about what she teaches and it shows. Easy quizzes and paper. There's also a project. No tests but the final was really hard. I ended up with a B, but I would recommend the class. You do have to really work if you want an A though.

Comment:

Dr. Horgan is one of those off-the-wall professors who truly has a passion for music and teaching. She gets very excited on occasion and sometimes you might have to remind her to breathe. The only dull moments in her class were our presentations and 20th century music. Concert reports were the only thing about the class that bugged me.

Music & civ was such a fun class. She's very informed on and enthusiastic about music. As long as you keep up with the readings and make yourself familiar with the music on listening quizzes (or just have a cultured ear, I guess), you're good. And good attendance always helps.

Avoid this class. She is a bit Crazy and goes psycho on the quizzes, The online quiz she gives are open book but are very scattered. I love music but she just made this class a bit too boring for me.

Not too hard of a class, especially if you have some background in music. Lots of listening quizzes that can be tricky. Weekly online quizzes. Study guide for the midterm, which is difficult but managable. Overall it's an okay class.

She's not easy, but she's not hard as long as you do your work. She's very nice. Attendance policy. Have to listen to CDs for listening tests, but she helps you out a lot. Liked her class very much.

NOT an easy class... lots of chapters on every test, including memorizing a lot of dates and names. listening quizzes regularly (u hafta recognize a piece of music she plays and know who wrote it- not that easy really)... RIGID attendance policy- not highly recommended for music in civilization!
