Dr. Cherry is a really nice guy, he just didn't know how to teach a first year seminar. We did not learn very much, if anything, except for grammar. We had a 1.5 page reflection due every week and an essay like every month, but the work load can seem like a lot but actually is not. If you are overloaded in another class, he will give you extensions

Absolutely insane amount of work. Great class, but it's extremely hard to keep up the work load with a full schedule of other classes...

ABSURD amount of work. Don't plan on having any free time or sleep. Not that difficult of a grader, but absolutely out of control workload. However I will say he is generally interested in his students even if he has completely unrealistic expectations.

I absolutely loved Dr. Cherry! Yes, he is fairly hard, and there is quite a bit of busywork involved and yes, Spanish was my life for a while, but he is such a nice man and willing to help. Very amiable, interested in students success, and I learned a lot during this class. Take him if you want to learn and don't mind working.

This class pains me to describe. Memorizing worthless details (dates, the number of lines in a sonnet, ect.)is not what I consider "engaged learning." Hopefully, the Spanish department will learn to offer more practical classes for majors.

PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WINTER TERM. YOU WILL DIE. It is an extremely challenging course- I took in during spring term and barely pulled of an A-, but I'm a good student and good at Spanish. Seriously, I saw that he was offering this winter term and flipped! DON'T DO IT. You will cry day and night.

This was my freshmen "Welcome to Furman Class" when I learned that a D can be considered a decent grade. He was a realy nice guy and I see him around and he remembers my name one year later. The class is just plain hard. I should have dropped immediatly when the homework for each night was a paragraph long. Ex. not "read" but "master" pages 180-230

Will definitely prepare you for Spanish 21. Gives daily homework and takes most of it up, but his class is very fun and engaging. Very helpful and friendly as well. Take this class if you want to learn spanish amd not fail when you get to 21.

Pro Cherry's Spn 15 class is pretty average. He prepares you well for Spn 21. This means a good bit of homework, but it's manageable. He's really nice and has tons of help sessions if you need it. If you want to do well in 21, but are willing to take a B or C in 15, take him!

Very, very tough. If you're not fluent, don't bother. I most everything that other students have said in their review of cherry: don't take if you're not a major, hard tests, singles people out in class. There are too many great SPN teachers to be stuck with this guy. Go for another option.

Pretty difficult class, but Dr Cherry is very helpful and this class will well prepare you for future classes. However, the work load was way too much for spn 15. but his tests are direct and clear. He makes sure that students know what to expect.

Great man, very helpful if you ask for it. However, he speaks fast and his tests are tricky, tricky, tricky. His worksheets are succinct and he is relatively clear about his expectations. Difficult teacher, but not an unfair one.

One of the nicest professors I have met at Furman, but he doesn't mess around in class. If you are planning on majoring in Spanish, take him. The homework load is rather heavy. Great guy but be leary of taking his class if you are only taking the class to fulfill the GER.

This guy is one of the nicest professors here, BUT he has one of the most demanding classes. If you don't want to be a Spanish major, then he isn't the one for fulfilling the GER.
