I took a Russian history with him. It was an excellent class and he was a wonderful prof! He is engaging, funny, super nice, and very intelligent! I fully recommend his class for personal development!

Prof. Jakobson is one of the most helpful and cooperative guys I have ever met. He knows his Russian History and I never had a question he couldn't answer. He is very funny (hilarious) and concerned about his students. I am a grad student and he grades a little tougher, but he was easy on the undergrads. (FYI...I had him for Imperial Russia)

I think this guy has got to be one of my all time favorite proffs. He was hilarious, he made his class fun, and his accent kicks butt! His class is only slightly difficult because for some parts of his tests you need to know some of the material in depth. Other than that his class was easy and i think that you should take one of his classes if you have the opportunity!

Comment:

Absolutely without a doubt the best professor I've ever had at any University I've been to. In order to teach a history class well the prof needs to be able to tell a good story. The class was an amazing experience and well worth the time. He's an ultra nice fella too.

had him for 20th century russian and he was my undergrad advisor. for someone who grew up in moscow during the time of Stalin he is one of the nicest profs on campus. his class was based on lecture, debate and tests. if u didn't debate u could do these homework projects that counted towards that part. his tests and essays were on interesting topics and the readings were great. i believe he played on the soviet national hockey team in his younger years. glad to see hes still around.

Havent attended UT for almost ten years and I remember Jakobsen was a fantasitc prof. I didnt do that well in the class, but he was a great guy. Used to visit him in his office hours and talk basketball. Take his class. It's tough but you'll enjoy it.
