Pat is the most caring woman I have ever met. She is one of the few professors that understands her class is not your only one. She is very understanding when things have to be turned in late due to issues outside of school. She genuinely cares and wants to see you succeed. No tests, all papers. Truly wonderful woman. Highly recommend her classes

She is life-changing! Her seminar was the best Psychology class I have ever taken in college. She makes the class welcoming and warm! She pushes for everyone's intellectual development and is very very helpful in her feedback in papers. I learned to be a better writer and thinker thanks to professor Smiley!!

I LOVE PROF. SMILEY. This class particularly was SOLID GOLD!!! The best Psych. class i have ever taken. She is amazing lecturer that instills interest in the topic and I love that she pushes students to be a great writer and researcher in a way that many profs do not.

Decent stats prof, although I don't think it's her strongest suit. Stats takes a little while to wrap your head around, and she wasn't always able to give great alternate explanations, at least for me. Tests could be surprisingly tricky, but not impossible. However, I like her as a prof. Very personable and friendly, willing to give outside help

Comment:
Social/Emotional Development is a great class if you are interested in this branch of psychology. Smiley is very knowledgeable and has been teaching at Pomona for over two decades. The three-hour seminar flies by in no time.

Her powerpoints don't always make sense. She is a difficult person to talk to, almost like talking to a wall or a judge. Extreme amount of work but that practice is helpful in terms of learning the material. If you don't have anything in common with her, it will be pointless trying to establish a connection. she simply doesn't care.

Professor Smiley is clear and knows her material exceptionally well. Additionally, she is easy to talk to, empathic and a wonderful person. She has helped me during and after my time at Pomona College. Thanks Prof. Smiley! ;)
