Comment:
Phan Loi has very well organized lectures. That is the only upside. His tests/quizes are nearly impossible. The questions focus on specific cases where complex algerbra must be used. The final was the hardest test I've taken in my life. Only 3 of 15 I asked passed the class. He is a big part of why Wright State's math department is a nightmare.

He doesn't properly prepare students for the material on the test, gives little to no partial credit, and never curves. The only people that do good have retaken the class 3 times. I am normally an A student and I got 2 Ds and one Cs on the exams even with studying for hours. Plug in one number incorrectly and you'll get 10 points taken off.

Dr. Loi is a very knowledgeable professor. Calc II w/ him is not an easy class. He gives weekly quizzes & HW is due every week. He is a very tough grader & that can really get you in tests and quizzes. However, he is easily accessible outside of class and that can help a lot if you are struggling. Overall, hard but not impossible.

Comment:
Dr. Loi's class is the hardest class I have ever taken. Not because calculus 2 is hard, but how he teaches the class makes it harder then it needs to be. If you make one mistake on any question for quizzes or exams then it is more likely than not you will lose all the points for that question. I suggest avoiding taking this class under Dr. Loi.

Nice guy, decent at teaching, very harsh grader. Gives no curve. Other professors in the MTH department will gives 15% grade cutoffs, he does not.

It is obvious that he knows the content, but he does not teach it well. Every class consists of writing things on the board and erasing, nothing more than that. When asking a question he treats you like you are an idiot. His in class example problems are incredibly easy, where the exams are very hard, also exams are 75% of the final grade.

Comment:
Is highly condescending when asking questions, does not attempt to personalize the class, lectures are simply writing and erasing stuff from a chalk board, does not use Pilot (electronic class tracker) like all other professors, gives little weight to homework and huge weight to exams, looks at ceiling when talking to you.

Dr. Phan Loi knows his field very well. That being said, every time I asked him a question he treated me as though I was an idiot. His examples are extremely basic, which make his quizzes and tests super difficult in comparison. His grading is absolutely awful, little to no partial credit. Any mistake leads to failure.

Doesn't care if you can do the calculus (what you're there to learn), if you do everything right but screw up the algebra or put a negative when it should be a positive, you'll get only 1-2/10 points on that problem. Quizzes have 3-5 problems, exams 6-8, so if you screw one or two up then you fail. Likes to treat students who ask questions as dumb.

Great lectures but make the examples so easy for notes and the questions on exams much harder. He does not use Pilot lot so you have to calculate your grade yourself. He does not give partial credit when grading. He knows what he is doing and expects the same from you.

Solid prof for MTH 2310. Difficult class, but he cares that you understand the material. He gives plenty of examples in class for each concept and there aren't many surprises on homework, quizzes, or exams. He's a strict grader, and you'll need to study a lot, but you could do a lot worse with other math profs.

Phan Loi is a great professor for calc 2. Although his grading is ridiculous. The first time I took his class I got a D. The second time i got an A. Although i had to retake the class for a second time I would still highly recommend Phan Loi just be prepared to study for every exam and review all problems done in notes they tend to show up on exams

Loi is a really good professor - as far as teaching. His exams are insanely difficult, with little to no curve meaning you're gonna have to work many hours outside of class. If you're dumb (like me!) I would suggest another professor. Grade breakdown consists of 10% for hw, 10 for quizzes, 15 for 3 exams, and the final is worth a grade-reducing 35%

Horrible grader you won't pass unless you can fully do each step of every problem correctly the smallest mistake on a problem worth 15 points will leave you with 2 points for that question.

Expect homework weekly. Exams were very tough. Also he says he gives partial credit, he only gives it when you are doing the correct process but mess up a negative sign or number in the problem. Very hard grader. Exam averages for calc 3 were in 50-60%. Copies notes straight to board

Don't take this professor. He takes off too many points for small errors and doesn't take into account the methods used. He is a very harsh grader and does not curve at all. His curve was a extra 20% on the final in the form of more problems, aka not really a curve. You're better off finding another professor outside of Wright State.

Professor Loi tried to teach Calc II casually, and I liked his teaching style. Don't miss lecture, though. In grading, he tends to focus more on the method than he does on the result, so pay attention to detail.
