Tells what he expects. Lots of feedback and ops to re-write to improve a paper's grade. Encourages free expression in writing & class which makes it interesting. Accept offers for 1-on-1 help. Really wants to help develop your ability to organize and express your ideas so you succeed in all your classes and are prepared for transfer to a 4-year.

Professor Carpenter is a great professor! I truly learned a lot from him in his English comp 2 class. He's a tough grader but he wants to see you succeed. Go to his office hours for extra help because he really knows how to write essays. If you struggle with writing, he's the professor to help you! You have to earn your grade. Would take him again!

As long as you do the work and on time, you will get an A. He sets a clear criteria as to what you need to do to pass the class. He rarely gives out homework and always encourages students to visit him if they have trouble or need help. The feedback he gave on essays was really helpful for me moving on to comp 2.

Professor Carpenter is a good professor, however as many people said before. He talks about past students often and how dumb they are. That did not leave a pleasant taste in my mouth. I worked really hard did all my assignments. I even went for help a couple times still did not get the grade I was hoping for. English is not my strongest subject.

He knows his stuff, it's just getting him to teach his stuff. Seriously, if you need instruction go to his office hours. To me he seems depressed and lonely. 70% class time talking about himself, past students, female relations, race relations, or any other subjects that are completely unrelated to the course. Barely opened the book.

This guy is pure evil. Avoid him at all costs. He is out to get you and will try to pick your papers apart. Someone took a huge dump in his oatmeal. He thinks he is right about everything and he has a horrible perspective about the students. He will fail you for his own pleasure.

Attendance is mandatory, which would lead you to think class time is extremely important for this class, however he spends more than half the period telling rambling stories that don't go anywhere and complaining about past students or about the way things "used to be." Actual analysis of papers is enjoyable, professor himself is not

Professor Carpenter is one tough teacher. Be prepared to get a reality of not just school but real life. This dude speaks the absolute truth and whether you like it or not, he will always be honest. Lots of papers and tough grader. Dont take this professor if you're soft and your feeling will be hurt easily.

Super annoying. Going to class is pointless but attendance is mandatory. All he does is ramble on and on about how this generation has it easy and how poorly his old students have done. He's the type of person who will tell a terrible joke and then explain it. He thinks very highly of his own opinion and will always say he's right.

Such a tough grader, mostly on writing mechanics. Insanely exacting. Not terribly accessible. Lectures are useless bc you are not tested on anything you discuss. He will ruin your gpa, but he will whip your writing into shape.

This man is beyond creepy. He flirts with every girl in the class and made me feel extremely uncomfortable every class, everyday he would pull me aside at the end of class have have a new inappropriate comment ready for me. I do not recommend him AT ALL.

The class would have been better if he would talk about the material and not himself constantly. Most of his lectures would be about his relationship with past students and how students look up to him or how he was disappointed is certain students, yada yada yada. I would have preferred a class based on the stories not him.

He is really smart, dedicated and teaches a lot of very interesting information. However, he spends half the class telling stories about students he's had that have failed his class. A few of these stories would have been okay, to scare us, but he did this in excess.

He's a really funny guy if he likes you. What annoyed me was all semester he would constantly degrade other students of his behind their backs to our class and laugh if they were failing or falling behind. A man like that should not be paid to be a teacherprofessor at any school its just cruel.

This guy has terrible time management skills. We wrote 5 papers in last 3 weeks of a 15 week semester. The only way to get an A with the last minute work load is to have this either A. be your only class or B. let you other classes fall secondary to this. Due to the poor time management and harsh grading I do not recommend this professor.

Professor Carpenter is not a teacher you want to take for an easy class. I took him for Comp II and let me tell you, he is NOT an easy-grader. He makes class very interesting, has a great sense of humor, and truly knows his stuff. He has VERY high expectations of everyone (including himself). DO NOT take his class if you are looking for an easy A.

He makes a lot of Seinfeld references and half of the symbols found in the stories were made to be phallic symbols. The class is mainly discussion so be prepared to talk about the readings/stories/poems.

Don't believe the negative hype. Carpenter is a great teacher. He's friendly, helpful, and interested in your opinions, even if they are the opposite of his own (like mine often were). Great teacher! I highly recommend him.

Rich helps you to understand literature so you can enjoy it for the rest of your life, not just for the span of the course. He sets high standards for his students, and for himself as well. He is extremely helpful, easy to understand, and has a wonderful dry sense of humor. You'll work hard and enjoy doing it. If you enjoy learning take his class!
