Comment:
I'm not a student that blames a teacher. I have excellent grades. But Mr. Gellert is a desensitized burn out that should not be teaching to young minds. I have good study habits so I survived. His lectures are horrible. He is too proud to change. Condescending! Has no insight to how rude he can be. Avoid at all costs if you're new to Chem.

If you ask him a question that you don't know he WILL make you feel stupid and not clearly help you with finding a solution. Is not helpful in anyway. Does not give us straightforward information to help us solve problems but gives you confusing concepts, that unless you already know it, you wont understand. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS! STAY AWAY!

Comment:
To pass Chem. 101, two things are essential: a good background (taking Chem. 105), and good studying skills. If you don't have either of these or are weak on either, expect Chemistry to be the hardest class you will ever take, and a D or F. Most people aren't cut out for Chemistry and the collective "sciences". Chem. 101 is designed to weed out.

Very knowledgable about the subject. however, his lectures are nothing like the exams. I studied my ass off and his exams did not match the notes. Very trivky questions!! I wouldnt take him again!!

Two words: Run Away! Seriously, he is pretty difficult. On the other hand, he is very intelligent and knowledgeable about the subject, but has a very hard time getting his students to understand him. He expected us to know more than what was required and his tests were absolutely ridiculous. If you actually want to learn DO NOT take his class!

Doesnt go over everything thats on his tests and He's a really hard grader. Also, notes are all over the place, He jumps from one subject to another. And his notes arent really that clear either.

he is a nice person but he makes the class way to hard. I spent hours studying and you can't pass his test. The lectures are unclear and don't match his test. He needs to explain better, and cover his testing material so we can understand what he wants us to do.

this teacher is unclear in what he wants us to learn. his test do not ever match how he teaches. very unclear in his teachings and a poor teacher as well. he made the class harder then it had to be for intro.

This is a hard professor. Do not take him unless you are very comfortable in Chem. His lectures are very complex and make learning concepts difficult for the average student. His exams are long and difficult, with tricky questions. This class makes you teach yourself. Discussion session is slightly helpful. Attendance is madatory.

hes a pretty alright professor. lectures are too fast and vauge unless you take really really good notes. even then theyre not all that useful because he tends to do things the complicated way. discussion sessions are alot more helpful than lecture cuz he helps you with inclass assignments very actively. test material isnt reviewed before tests.

Overall good Professor...Tends to make explainations more complicated than needed, but he is fairly clear on the subject. He is always willing to help as long as ur attending class. He is approachable so there is no reason to not pass his class, just don't be lazy.He has 3 exams and then a final...about 5 quizzes in discussion. Attendance is recorded

The previous comments are not ture. Dr. Gellert has a nice personality, but his lectures are vague, and useless. He is a way far from an ideal Chem instructor. I do not recommend him at all.

THE BEST PROFESSOR I HAVE EVER TAKEN! Knows exactly what he's talking about, encourages questions, and loves his students. The only people who don't like him are the ones that never study or show up to class, and that's their problem. He's also teaching at GCC. If you have a choice, most definitely take Gellert!

Nice and understanding professor. Show up to class, do the reading, do the HW, and you'll be fine. I wish I knew that before class started. Anyhow he knows his stuff and his lectures are good. I recommend reading the chapter prior to lecture and taking the lecture as another perspective on the same material. Works perfectly. Overall a good guy.

It's funny how most of the people who have problems with Gellert barely showed up to class. At least in my class. I did the reading and the journals. If you just show up and listen (u don't have to take notes), you get extra credit. I would strongly recommend him over Margaret Holzer any day.

he wasn't that bad as these testimonials seem to say. granted, it was a hard course for me but i managed with hard work. i've seen MUCH worse chem teachers and he isn't one of them. i wouldn't sweat it if i had his class again.
