HE IS HORRIBLE DO NOT TAKE HIM! Within the first week he had only taught (ON THE SUBJECT) for less than 40 minutes. I do not complain about professors, ever. But this is bad.

So far the only other person in the world I have ever connected with on the same level of thinking, and reasoning. Dr. West is how I imagined college to be when I was growing up. Great man and very serious about his faith, and field of study. Dont be afraid to confront him outside of class at the Cafe, or ask him to grab coffee with you. No regert

Dr. West knows what he is talking about, but he is a very hard professor especially for intro level biology. He expects a lot out of his students and there is a lot of studying involved. it is doable but you have to be ready to work and be committed.

Comment:

Professor West gets such a bad rap, but he is truly a gifted teacher. He is passionate and caring. I hated the class initially, but it was only because he made us work for it. If you want to grow, take West. It might be tough, but few things in life are worth it if they are easy. He made a class I didnt want to take a class I look forward to.

Some mornings, I sat and wondered whether it would be worse to skip class or stick my hand in a running blender. I'm still undecided on this choice. This class was frustrating at all times. Tests were over uncovered material, labs were just unnecessary and bad, lectures were very biased, etc. I will not be taking the class or prof again.

Sure. Attendance isn't mandatory but if you miss a pop quiz it's a zero. you have pop quizzes 2-3 times a week. I was a straight A student without effort my entire life and ended up studying 30 hours a week for this class. Barely pulled out the grade I was reaching for. The teacher isn't available and doesn't teach near everything that is tested on

So you want your GPA to be super low? Then take a class with him. You will hate every moment of it. He treats every student like a bio major even when its a core class. He rants a lot about his personal beliefs and his tests are RIDICULOUS. Dont do it to yourself but if you do, then my prayers are with you.

This is one of the hardest classes I've ever taken. If you're going to take this class, which I definitely wouldn't recommend, you have to be prepared to read. You won't get much done in lectures, so reading is vital if you want to pass. There is a pop quiz almost every day, and if you aren't in class then you'll get a 0. Go to lecture!! It helps!!

Dr. West gets some pretty awful reviews on this site, and I think it's time to be fair. Dr. West is friendly and helpful, and his study sessions are great. His class wasn't easy. But please, this is college. You're going to have to work. If you're looking for an easy A, you won't find it here. But the time put into the class is well worth it.

While Dr. West is a very intelligent man, he is not the best professor. I have been a straight A student my whole life, but I made a C. He expects you to treat this class as if it's your only class; it is way too difficult for a non-major class.

Dr. West is obviously passionate about biology, but maybe isn't the best teacher. He can be very confusing when he talks, and moves through the material very quickly. There is a quiz nearly everyday, and lots of reading. If you're into biology, it might work out for you, but as a non-major, not so much for me. Go to lab, though. It helps a lot.

Dr. West is a nice man, but he ends up getting off topic and just preaching to us during lecture. If you don't keep up with your reading in the textbook, the class is really difficult. It is very fast-paced. GO TO LAB, it will really help your grade.

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!!! It is WAY more difficult than it needs to be. I believe Dr. West is a good human being, but as a professor, he needs to leave immediately. His lectures generally turn into him preaching and not what we're learning. He invokes fear of failure from day one, and he supplies an overload of information. NO!

Comment:

West is a pleasant person, though this class was incredibly difficult. It was a core requirement for me and I felt it was more appropriate for science majors. His lectures could be difficult to understand. He did offer a couple extra credit opportunities. His review sessions were useful. Lab with Hines is what will save your grade in this class.
