Comment:

One of the best English teachers I've had! He enjoys teaching and encourages his students to visit him during office hours, where he practically writes your paper for you. He's also very understanding of accommodations for learning differences. Wish this weren't his last year but will definitely take him again in the spring. Thank you, Dr. P!

By far one of the best professors I've ever had. He can be a tough grader but it helps a lot if you speak to him during office hours about your work. He really cares about everyone in class and is just a great person overall. I'm a better person after taking classes with him.

So sad to hear that Roger's time at Austin College is coming to an end soon. I have taken one course with Roger, and I am scheduled to take another course with him next semester. Roger is an amazing English professor and he is so helpful. You will cover meaningful topics & leave class feeling fulfilled. Make sure to take notes & go to office hours

Comment:

Roger is one of the best professors I've ever had! I learned so much about literary analysis and writing from his classes that I took. Be prepared to put in effort on papers, but also try talking with him about your draft and he'll give you good pointers. You will leave any of his classes feeling fulfilled.

For expository writing: If you are writing a paper you MUST go in to talk to him. He will read it, give you a ton of ideas, and will basically write the paper for you. Beware of grammar! He is very picky about it so find someone who knows their stuff to edit it for you if you suck at grammar. There are only 4 papers and a mid term + final.

I took several classes with him and found each one to be a worthwhile challenge (Tennyson and TS Eliot, Intro to Creative Writing, Victorian Lit). If you're looking for something easy go elsewhere. His classes are thorough and intellectually stimulating. Be prepared for class because most of his classes are smaller and discussion based.

Roger has a lot of fans, but he just wasn't for me. His perfectionism drove me crazy; I'd try extra hard to please him but it was never enough, and pretty soon I went from determined to resentful. I learned a lot from class, but his standards are often way too high!

Great professor... willing to help with anything you need. ADVICE: write the first draft of your papers not-so-great and make the final draft a new and improved version... he grades on how well you improved and how honest/clear you are when you write your paragraph explaining how and why you made the changes you did. Definitely recommended.

He's very passionate and knowledgable. He'll ask you questions as a devil's advocate and give you other supporting facts when you voice an opinion. He reviews your papers throughly with plenty of specific commentary that tells you exactly what was good and what needs work. He's a great prof and he's adorable- he's the best!

Roger is a wonderful teacher, one of the best I've ever had. He's not an easy grader, though. If you take this class, expect to work hard. Do all the readings and talk in class. Go visit him during his office hours and ask for advice on papers. He is a very nice guy and I highly recommend him.

Roger is amazing. He is a wonderfully cute little Jewish gay man who is very passionate about his job, which you can tell he loves. Definately would recommend him. Talk a lot in class and show interest in the topic and he will love you and you will do just fine.

Comment:

One of the better English profs at AC, he is a bit too wrapped up on sexual politics to provide a genuine overview of the Victorian Age's literature. This is hardly an uncommon failing, though, and he is still well worth taking. He is fairly challenging and a bit finickey.
