Ronn is very knowledgeable about transfering--an expert on admissions & financial aid. He is fair--acts like a top art school prof.--doesn't baby. Listen to critiques for better grades--he looks for improvement. When students have personal problem, he takes an interest & gives chances. His classes prepare you for the real world.

Warning to illustration majors, stay away. He is very biased against those who aren't fine art majors. If your work isnt conceptual, he won't like you. He humiliates students whos work he doesnt like or "understand". As I said, very biased. Other professors know him to be a liar so it's hard to take him seriously. Grading is unclear.s

Comment:

Be careful of how loosely defined the grading criteria is. All is not as it seems. This isn't a class in design it's a class in Ronn Davis. He is fascinating and inspiring. He gave us an assignment to do anything we wanted but we wouldn't do it--when I actually did do weird performance I was shamed by him and classmates until I dropped. Painful.

I took his class nearly 10 years ago. After graduating from Otis with a BA, Ron's class continues to be the best throughout my education. I produced my best conceptual ideas under his guidance. I would take his class again in a heartbeat if my echedule allowed me to.

Ron's words takes awhile to sink in and understand, for me personally, but if you pay attention and really try to grasp what he's saying, you will benefit a lot. Also, make sure you know what you want to do and where you want to go. Ron has excellent advice and connections that can get you there.

This school has so many professors that teach technique already, that it's a good thing we have Ronn! <3 It's the only art class where I was able to totally have freedom to discover my own way of making art and doing that. Good for advanced students and Not bad for a beginner because he does help if you ask, maybe in the middle take someone else?

Can be hard if you need someone to hold your hand through every project but if you need that you aren't ready to be an artist and should take some more beginner classes. AMAZING guy! changed my life really. So helpful with transfers if you need it. He is not good if you need a lot of guidance bc he lets you do your own thing. doesn't teach technique he teaches you to be yourself and become and artist as a whole which is very neccesary. He know so much about anything really. Take his class if you can handle it.
