If you take 152, Professor Hoot does the Botany section of the class. Her lectures are pretty dry and make botany (which COULD be fun) seem really boring. She does however put her powerpoint notes on D2L, which is nice but don't get used to it because the next prof in 152, Heathcote, will not and you have to go to lecture. Go to lecture and study.

She was always very helpful to our class. I thought she was awesome. Sometimes she can be a bit hard to hear, but just move upfront and pay attention and you'll be fine.

Don't get where all the hate comes from, she doesn't have that attitude that some people describe in other posts. Puts slides online so easy to study from if you miss a class. Very clear in lectures. 152 is easier than 150 in my opinion. Exams are pretty easy class averages were C+/B-s.

Dr. Hoot made the botany section of Bio 152 actually interesting. She used short videos in her slide shows, and generally seemed happy to be there.

Dr. Hoot's Philosophy: Questions are irritating. Seriously. Don't ask ANY questions. She told a guy in our class, "No. That isn't even close to being correct. Read your lab manual." Wow. She's confusing and won't clarify and very VERY dry. Makes me yawn just thinking about it. Definitely made me re-think my major.

Remarkably dull and bizarre to work with. Nevertheless, I was able to pass her tests entirely by studying material she put online, only going to two of her lectures.

Hoot does a great job of driving away potential Bio majors. Hoot's portion of the lecture and lab is an absolute bore. She dominates the course layout for the semester and her exams are hard. Attend lecture and pay attention to everything she talks about in lecture and to the botany labs.

For a freshman level class its terrible. expect way too much and gives nothing in return. Lab section is also bad. Do not overload your schedule with this class in it. So much information that is total useless in the real world, even botany students. Class goes beyond what the scope should be. Unreal expectations.

Ever since having her teach the plant section in 152 I never took another plant class. She traumatized me. I wish she made it fun and interesting like plants could be, but she didn't. Her exams were impossible and her lectures confusing.

She's confusing. She's doesn't care about her students when they ask for help. And she has little time for themz. She considers extra help a chore if you ask her.

Her lectures were pretty boring, and it was easy to start dozing off. She covered all the material, and the exams were fair, but it was a drag to listen to her talk.

This professor does not appreciate visits to her office. She is hard to understand, and seems to care little about whether are or not you understand material. Not a very good professor. Puts little time into preparing for class (it seems).

Dr. Hoot is brilliant, but tends to fly through material. Her class is a good class, but you really have to study a lot.
