He is a very tough and unpredictable grader. But his class was very educating and thought-provoking. If you don't care much about GPA, take his class. He's very funny, too.

Comment:
Professor Konecky is probably the most tangential instructor you may ever experience. However, that doesn't mean don't take his courses. The class I was in was based solely on novel reading and discussion. He often interrupts students and is constantly changing what he seems to think. He often contradicts what he previously says. But he is funny.

Unbelievably good professor, the way he placed our proseminar in the hands of the students made the course one of the most demanding, enjoyable, and educational experiences I have ever had the pleasure of participating in. He's certainly not for everyone: if you don't enjoy dialogue and independent research, you will have a difficult time passing.

Konecky's grading system is tough, and I believe he should grade based on ideas, more than reiteration of class discussion. Loved the material, could have done without Konecky teaching it. Good class overall though.

Konecky means well. He teaches intersting classes and enjoys teaching, but he has a peculiar education philosophy that makes him somewhat unpalatable. He "doesn't believe in grades" because he doesn't think philosophers need accolades but is one of the hardest graders in the dept (that is because he grades you against what he thinks you are capable of, even if he doesn't know you at all). I wouldn't recommend him but if you're interested in something he's teaching, take it, it'll be ok.

very fair class. his class meetings were conference-style, not lecture, which is obviously appropriate given the subject. he's a very thought provoking professor. his grading is pretty tough.

I thought he was a great prof; very interesting and upbeat; knowledgable and fun. I wasn't a philiospy major, but he greatly increased my knowledge of the subject.
