Clingman is an incredibly wise, incredibly passionate professor. he really knows what he's talking about and is passionate about it. Honestly I didn't love any of the books we read but I adored his class. He's kind of like your little old grandpa who tells amazing stories that you don't really care about but like to listen to.

Very nice man. However, I didn't have much interaction with him due to the large lecture size. TA's do the grading and are pretty much the teachers. Go to lecture, read the books, participate in discussion and you'll get an A.

I really don't think that a large lecture class is appropriate for an English course. With that said, I think that Prof. Clingman manages to perform wonderfully within the boundaries. Would I recommend the class? Only if you really need/want to take it. Would I recommend him? Yes, 100%. He's very intelligent yet down-to-earth at the same time.

Not the most interesting topic or booklist, but overall Clingman is a nice guy. His lectures can be dull, and he will go on about frivolous details often, but overall a good course. Definitely go to lecture - there are quizzes in discussion and test questions based on the ideas presented. My TA is phenomenal and helpful - TAs grade the papers.

Professor Clingman is incredibly intelligent and welcoming. His lectures don't do much to inspire interest in the material, though, and he tends to ramble on for the 50 minutes. Lecture only mandatory due to bi-weekly quizzes. An excellent professor to build a relationship with regardless.

Contemp. British novels. Good picks. Tons of reading.One major paper. Interesting class discussions. Soft spoken, respectful,extremely intellectual...really, really nice, approachable. One of my favorite teachers in the English Dept.

A really engaging voice to run along side some well crafted contemporary novels (both individually and as a theme to the course). The only problem is that TA's are a crapshoot; there's really no way to know who you're going to have to deal with every friday. I drew a bad hand. Good luck.

i love this professor. he's insightful, funny, passionate, and don't listen to anyone who says his lectures are boring--bring a coffee and relax, they're wonderful (but do pay attention, 'cos you'll be quizzed). this class is one of my all-time favorites, and it's all because of him.

Professor Clingman is a really wonderful professor. His lectures may be a bit boring, but as a non-english major, I really enjoyed the class. We read 7 novels, did two 5 page essays and had one cumulative final. Overall, I really enjoyed this class and would recommend it to people who enjoy reading. Also, make sure you are fully clear on MLA format
