He is definetly one of the best professors I had. I have no complaints about him. He is a liberal and it is evident but he is very open minded and lets you have your opinion. There were 3 speeches and 1 test (which is really easy)...Attendance is mandatory and he is very strict about that...TAKE HIM....YOU WONT REGRETTT HE is the BESTT..he is fair

This is the best Prof. for this class; very helpful, easy going, giving 4 speeches was not so stressful. If you are foreigner you should take this Prof. he does not lower your grade because of your accent.

One of the best professors at Baruch. He's very down to earth and friendly. Workload is not too heavy; two basic outlines for each speech. Very helpful. Would definitely recommend him!

A fun and entertaining class i took prof Garvey's class during the summer. He is a very easy grader, most students receive A or A-, at least a B+, attendance is mandatory Highly recommend :)

Professor Garvey is an absolute beautiful professor. I took him over the summer and loved it. I was absolutely anxious on taking a summer class for the fear of a lot of work to go with it. In terms of outlines, he does not go crazy with them. Just have it nice, neat, and organized. For the exam, wait till the review. RECOMMEND HIM SO MUCH!

He is a great professor. I was so afraid of this class cause I'm a really bad public speaker and I'm not a native speaker but Prof. Garvey really help each of us and I really enjoy his class. It was the best class of my semester which came as I schock. Not an easy A, you have to work for it, need to practice a lot each speech. 1 midterm, 6 spechees

The best professor I've had at Baruch. Always had fear of taking a communication course but taking this professor was definitely the best choice. He is very helpful and encouraging, made the class enjoyable. Much work is needed but it will pay off. The best class ever.

THE best professor I've had at Baruch so far. Hated the idea of taking COM and took it in the summer to get it over with but fell in love with the course and decided to minor in COM! definitely recommended.

He takes his craft very seriously. If you take it to get an easy A to up your GPA don't take him.He doesnt like when people do not do what is asked of them. He also doesnt like when students take this class as a joke. It sounds like a lot of work, but not as time consuming as it sounds in the beginning.He's work ethics are great.

In the beginning, it seemed like too much with the books, 3 scenes, journal, reports, but it really was not bad. Basically, if you are serious about acting, take him! If not, do not waste your time or his time. This is ADVANCED acting, so acting is taken very seriously, not just fun and games. I'm glad I took his class and I love acting even more.

If you are serious about acting, whether in film or theatre, this class is for you!Garvey coaches his students and prepares them for the industry.He also pushes his students and brings out any ounce of talent that is hindered.His critiques are VERY HELPFUL!I wish I could pay him to be my personal acting coach for my aspired career.WORTH EVERY $1!

AMAZING PROFESSOR! I dreaded having to take COM class but professor Garvey made it my most favorite class of the semester! Hes very nice and easy to talk to and very encouraging if you're nervous when presenting. He does not criticize anyone for having a accent either. He makes class fun! Cannot stress how great this professor is. MUST TAKE!

He's such a helpful professor! I didn't want to take speech class until I had this guy. I got a B+ on my first speech because of my speech being too short and monotonous. The next speeches got so much better!! (A-, A, A) I am glad I took this professor, he doesn't discriminate if you have an accent. If you take speech, TAKE THIS PROFESSOR!!

Dreaded having to take speech. However, after taking it with Professor Garvey, I no longer hate giving presentations. He really tries to make students feel comfortable when they're giving a speech. 4 speeches and a test based on the text. If you have the opportunity to take Com 1010 with Prof. Garvey, take it! The speech exercises were fun too!

Excellent professor. 4 speeches and 1 exam. He does not grade harshly on the speeches, and the exam is straightforward as long as you know the material. Lowest grade he gives on speeches is a B+. Only thing I disliked about the professor was that he loves to give his opinion about everything, and tries to influence your own beliefs. TAKE HIM! =]

This professor is awesome! He's very encouraging and extremely helpful. Very nice professor. Best I've ever had. You have to do about 4 speeches but they are fairly easy. You don't really need the textbook, just take notes.

gives quite a few books to read. he said they were mandatory and are MUST-READS but i didnt really read them and he never quizzed us on them. You can download the books he recommends anyway. If you show that you are trying to act and if u give feedback during class, VERY easy to get an A. only paper due at end. VERY easy teacher, nice guy too.
