Dr. Ty has superior knowledge and communication skills. He knows the subject at a very detailed level, and can explain it to students. Dr. Ty was very responsive to my emails, and sometimes he responded within a few minutes of my sending the email.

Expects high standards and respect from students. Read your material before class, and make sure you have an clear understanding or you will not pass tests/quizzes. Provides plenty of examples of good code; he will accept bad code if it works although you might lose some points if its habitual. Use him as a resource and he will work with you.

This instructor is very clear, fair and provides great feedback and support. Follow your syllabus and ask questions when needed. If you need additional help with homework assignments take advantage of the Computer Tutor Center. If you stay organized, focused and complete your assignments you will do very well. I highly recommend this instructor

-If you're serious about learning programming, Fogle is the man. He's super knowledgeable and respectable with a PhD in computer science. A real gem. -He's tough on grading, and has high expectations on your projects, which is possible and enjoyable once you get into the habit. -You MUST read the chapters if you hope to pass this class.

If you are the kind of person who cares more about knowing than a grade, take this professor. You will learn something. He know his stuff and more importantly he knows how to teach it. You are not allowed to open any screen during lecture so that he gets your full attention. I think that helped me a lot. Thank you sir and keep up the good work!!!

Comment:
Not a fan of this professor. Grades in a manner I feel to be unnecessarily tough, removing points for absolutely minute items that don't have any impact on the outcome of the program you're writing. As a positive , he responds quickly to emails and grades in a timely manner. Does not come off as particularly friendly over email. Current grade 87.5

He asks you to turn off your computer during lecture. Hard to get used to at first, but well worth it as the material is challenging and I needed to focus. He gets a bad rep for being difficult, but the class is cchallenging and the structure helps.

He is mean, rude, and disrespectful. His grading scale is completely insane. You can get everything right except for one detail, and you'll fail. He is also condescending when you get things wrong. All around, I have had a horrible experience with Professor Fogle and will do everything in my power to avoid taking one of his classes again.

Laid out grade requirements and graded strictly by it. Did not take off points for additional, correct features/stylings but did not comment/encourage either. Very strict adherence to established course materials. Uses a weird scale--instead of being worth 10 or 20 points, they were worth 1 or 2 points (and would take of .1 for missed items).

Thomas Fogle was extremely ridged. No technology in class (Laptops, phone, etc) unless you were using a mobile device to record him. You had to take notes by hand and his answers to questions barely passed as helpful.

I took this class online and don't have any complaints. Do the labs, pay attention to small details, and you'll do fine. He provides videos on the labs which are very helpful in helping you determine if you're doing everything correctly and what he expects. His midterms are a bit long, and challenging, but if you understand VB, you should be fine

This class was boring, take it online if you can. Very clear instructions. Work is tedious but helpful. You definitely need the book and do all projects. Responded very quickly to e-mails but sort of told you to figure things out on your own.

Good guy who gets a bad wrap for not allowing people to use their computers during lecture. He absolutely WILL make you turn your screen off, or you will be asked. I actually found this to be a positive as it helped me focus better without 30 people click-clacking away on keyboards while he talks.

Demanding in the quality of code you produce. Some students might not like this aspect but it should be appreciated since in the real world away from college you better know your stuff. Always answers E-mails promptly. Very helpful in all communication be it email or in class.

I thought this instructor was pretty good overall. Class only lasts about an hour then its lab time. He is good with answering questions quickly, but sometimes I had to email him again for clarification. The exams can be somewhat tricky, however, and I found that the study guides contained very little of what actually ended up on the exams.

He makes everyone turn off their monitors while he lectures and doesn't allow anyone to be on their phones. I find that really annoying! Other than that though he seems to be a fair teacher who does his job well. I'd take another class from him (I just have to remember to bring something caffeinated to drink).
