Professor Hesford is lecture heavy and she covers a fair amount of material each class, so it's best not to skip out on class. However, she does allow 2 or 3 days of unexcused absence before points towards attendance gets taken off. She also gives pop quizzes on homework readings, but offers quite a few extra credit opportunities.

her way of thinking and explaining things are very abstract so you might get lost in her words sometimes. Although the readings and discussions in class are very interesting, beware she is a tough grader.

She isn't your typical SBU professor. She'll make sure you read and will know when you do and don't. At the very least, TRY to do the readings. It will show that you made an effort even if you didn't understand it. If you didn't understand it at all, tell her and she'll work through it. But if you don't read, she won't know what you're lost on.

If you are not willing to go that extra mile DO NOT bother taking any of her classes. She is one tough cookie. Attendance is mandatory and if you miss you're screwed because she takes the class time to explain the readings. The readings are long and some difficult to understand.

Basically, attendance is mandatory and you will have no idea what is going on if you do not go to class. VERY HARD GRADER. Every day you get assigned a ton of readings and basically just talk about that all class. Papers graded harshly and midterm and final are a ton of work and graded hard as well.

You must take notes otherwise you are screwed! Overall it is an interesting class however you must put an effort and show interest... She is a tough grader so beware !!!

Meticulous, smart, fun, bright, wonderful British accent, not a dull moment! Hesford knows her materials well and conveys excitement and energy in intellectual discussions that would otherwise be dull. Highly recommended. Take her class.

I would fall asleep in class a lot. But the class was not too difficult. I would reccommend her as a teacher, but she has a monotone voice that just would put me to sleep! But the class was not too bad overall. I ended up getting a B+ which was not too bad.

She presents a point and explains it for like 15 minutes, she seems very passionate and she is very enticing when she speaks.. 2 midterms and a final- and its mainly based off of her notes-i recommend this class- i recieved an A- and im taking class with her again in the fall!

The quality of the class is excellent, but there are too many long, boring readings to do. Her voice isn't exciting at all, you will most likely fall asleep. Also, she checks attendance everyday. But the most important thing is the reading assignments.

a great professor!!! smart, funny and definitely is a lot of help to her students!!! clear in her lectures!!! has essay forms of midterms and finals. in 301, two reaction papers are required and must do readings b/c participation will help boost ur grade!her comments on ur papers will definitely help ur writing. in 407, she is a great help!!!
